My First Planted Aquarium - 55g

I began planning my first planted aquarium about a month ago. After hours of working out in the sun and a lot of sweat, some blood, but no tears, I earned enough money to buy a nice lot of plants for a 55 gallon tank, some good substrate, a decent lighting system, and a 5 pound co2 cylinder.
The substrate I'll be using is "Eco-Complete", and here is the lighting system I have http://www.aquatraders.com/48-inch-4...e-p/52305p.htm.

These are the plants I will be using.

-Sword, Amazon "Giant Mother Plant"
-Tiger Lotus, Red (Nymphaea zenkeri)
-Anubias, barteri var. nana 'narrow leaf'(potted)
-Ludwigia, Broad Leaf (Ludwigia repens)
-Baby Tears (Hemianthus micranthemoides)
-Sagittaria, Dwarf (Sagittaria subulata) Potted
-Sword, Red Melon (Echinodorus Barthii v. "red melon")
-Cryptocoryne, Wendtii, Red (Cryptocoryne wendtii)

Please feel free to ask questions, and give me some advice, so I do things right the first time!

Looks good Zuni! I'll be following along as I am setting up a planted 55 also - I have a tank journal going on it.

I almost went with Eco-Complete but at the last minute chose FloraMax. I am going to cap it with sand and hope that it doesn't mix too much

Good luck with your tank! As long as you don't disturb the substrate too much, I don't think it'll mix.

Personally I would ditch the swords and go with crypts if you haven't bought them yet.
Reason being they grow literally ginormous. My red melon before I chucked it was 3.5ft tall by 3ft wide.

Yeah I agree with not going with swords....they are taking over my tank and I am now giving them away. I plan on keeping 3 and getting rid of 12. Sad part is I started with 2 less then a year ago.

3.5 by 3? That is really, really big. I might just end up not using the red melon sword...

That's what I thought when I took it out and measured it lmao.
I should also say that the width is more due to the fact it had baby's sprout up right next to it.

Swords are nice looking but most of them get to big for the average planted tank.

Finished planting

Also, I forgot to take pictures of the dwarf sag, melon swords, and the red tiger lotus.
The lotus is barely visible in between the intake of the filter and the heater.
The melon sword is to the far left, and finally a small piece of anubias on the driftwood.
