10g Shrimp Frankentank

Not sure how long this particular journal will last, but we'll see

I happened to have a 10g leftover and empty, so decided to set it up as a shrimp tank. I went through a long process of at first thinking I'd do shellies, then a single dwarf cichlid, then endlers ...

Since its set up on the one side of my comfy chair, with the fairly-busy-with-fish 40 breeder on the other side ... I decided I wanted something different to look at on that side, and thus decided on shrimp.

I don't have a whole lot budgeted for this tank ... and am using all leftovers that I've scrounged out of my fish closet. So, it has become more of a frankentank and less of a themed shrimpie tank.

The challenge is going to continue to be able to set up and evolve this tank with mostly castoffs and freebies.

I am not sure I like the hardscape at this point though. And I still need to buy a pre-filter for the intake.

10 gallon glass tank - standard dimension
20 watts coralife 50/50 (compact flo. bulbs, incandescent fixture)
flourite black sand
AquaClear 20
JQRandom heater
Black background
manzanita scraps

Well, the wisteria hasn't melted or turned brown yet (flails on wood). I'd never had too much luck in growing green things in that flourite sand before .... We'll see.

I've decided to keep the tank going in the vein in which it was spawned .... Anything that becomes a part of it must come from one or more of the following sources:

-- Anything leftover from my fish closet
-- Anything snipped out of my other tank(s)
-- Deeply discounted

For fun, I'll keep a running tally of what I've spent on it. If I'm getting something shipped, I won't count the cost until the stuff is actually in the tank ... since I could very well appropriate it for use in the 40b if it looks nice, lol.

Current funds spent: $0.00

I should probably get pics before I update .... but the camera is acting weird.

I've simply let the wisteria grow out, and for plants I obtained some Lilaeopsis chinensis for cheap. I put some of the portion bought into the 40, and some into this tank.

Three weeks ago I snagged 25 PFR culls, and then 10 days ago a second batch of 20 RCS. The PFR's (the batch seemed to be mostly female) came all saddled, and once the second batch of shrimp came in (which seemed to be mostly male) I started seeing berried females .... of which I now have 6. Maybe 7.

Total spent on tank thus far: $50
