Chris's 58 gallon journal

I took down my 55gal. for now and started a new 58gal tank.
It's a Oceanic tank and stand. The stand is open front, so I will need to make doors for it or maybe a black curtain.

It has the substrate from my 55gallon. It was flourite. Both filters xp2 with inline diy co2 reactor. Pressurized co2 5lb, mil sms 122 controller, and jbj reg. combo.

Hydor 2600 canister with inline 300watt hydor heater, and coralife turbo twist 3x.

2-coralife 36inch 96watt aqualites.

The starting plants are ordered and will hopefully arrive soon.

This is a couple pics of the setup minus plants. I turned the lights on for the photos but they are currently off until the plants get here.

Just looking for any opinions on the driftwood placement. Or if I need more wood or less.

Finally got some plants for the 58 gallon. Just planted today. There is glosso in the center front foreground. It is not just bare.

Thanks John, Hope they all grow in nicely.

Baby Tears
Anubias barteri v. nana
Diandra didiplis
rotalla wallichii
L. Repens
rotala indica
echinodorus tennelus
eleocharis acicularis(hair grass)
hygrophilia polysperma
glossostigma elatinoides

I hope the wallichii and didiplis do alright because I have medium hard to hard water. I guess I will know soon enough.

Oh, no fish or shrimp yet.

Looks terrific! Really like the driftwood off to the right too. Are you just using one spray bar and letting the other outlet run straight current? bob

Hi Bob, thanks for the comments. The xp2 has a spray bar and it is on the rt. side attached front to back. The hydor 2600 canister did not come with a spray bar but it has a fanned out tip for the output. I would like to make a spray bar for it but haven't gotten around to it yet. I think it would be simple to make as long as I can find black pvc.

Looking great, I really like the look of the anubias nana around the driftwood. They're giving me an idea. Have you decided on any fish yet?

Thanks e.lark, The fish are the next step. I know I want quite a few shrimp in there. Still debating on the fish though. I would like to do 2 or 3 discus but I want to research them more, because if they can't do well with only weekly water changes then they are out. I just don't have the time. Maybe shrimp and harliquins or cardinals not sure yet.

I planted this tank last saturday this is just a growth update. Less than a week.
I need to work on hiding equipment and tring to get the bubbles out of the background.

And a side shot.

Oh the last 2 are daytime shots so there are reflections, I keep playing with the exposure and whitebalance on the camera so thats why these two shots are different color from the earlier ones.

If you bought fully grown discus. I would say 50% W/C's twice a weed would be the minimum. For smaller discus (1-3in) you would need to grow them out in a BB tank with daily W/C's of 50%. www.simplydiscus.com The forum here will tell you everthing thing there is to know about discus

http://www.imagehosting.us/imagehost...jpg/?id=432024

55gallon
W/C 2 a week 50%
bacis ferts with W/C's (kno3,K, posphates,trace,Fe)
It's really not so bad. W/C's only take about 10 mins. I would suggest keeping a QT tank around becuase your fish WILL get sick at one piont or anouther.

You might want to throw a strap or bungee cord around that CO2 tank. Evil things happen when the fall over.

Moved to Tucson.
