40gallon Breeder update 3-8-06

Thought I would post some pics of my 40 gallon breeder. I am fairly new to the hobby, actually put this tank together in January.
The aquascape needs some help I think, I think my first problem is that I have to many plants, so over the weekend I think I am going to do a major rescape, but before I do I thought it would be cool to get some thoughts and advice from you folks here.
For all the aquaheads I will post some parameters,
NO3 is between 5 & 10
PO3 is between 0 and .5 though I'm really trying to get it to 1
My KH & PH I dont know, only because I hate testing so did test today and came up with KH 10 & PH of 6.6 if you do the math its an insane ppm reading so I think one of my tests may be bad or old.
If you look at the earlier pics you will see a nice redness to my Limnophilia Hippuroides (spelling) I stopped dosing Fe about a month ago because of thread algae, algae is gone but so is the nice redness. Oh well.
Ok folks let me know what you think, any comments or suggestions would be great.
Thanks,
Pete

How much light do you have over these plants? Sometimes red fades under low light.

I guess the redness could be light related, I only have 2.4 wpg, I actually stuck a root tab underneath the Hippuroides to see if it's Fe related, but I think you are right, probably light related.
Anyone have any ideas about how to change the overall scape?
Im thinking of pulling out the Hemianthus micranthemoides and letting the
Hemianthus callitrichoides spread and put a couple of Blyxa Japonica over to the left.
The right sides a mystery to me I think I can see it visually in my head, just not sure how it will look.

Ok,
So I did some rescaping, and I think I'm finally happy with the scape.
As you can see I pulled the Hemianthus micranthemoides on the left side and transplanted some Hemianthus callitrichoides into the space along with 2 of my 5 Blyxa Japonica.
On the right I pulled my Limnophilia Aquatica and added some long stems of Alternanthera Reineckii behind the Mayaca, I also put all of my stems of Hottonia Palustris in the big empty space I had in front, I think I will be able to shape it into something that I like.
Now I sit and wait for things to fill in, as soon as I see some decent growth I will post another pic.

Looks great! What is the plant in the foreground that is being used for ground cover? I like it!

Scout,
The plant is Hemianthus callitrichoides, great ground cover, and fairly easy to grow, I'm growing it in 2.4wpg with pressurized CO2 at about 30ppm, I also dose using the EI method using the flourish line.
NO3= between 10&20
PO3=0.5, but trying to get it up to 1

Thanks for all the great comments!

Lovely! Very peaceful, but vibrant... Makes me think Middle Earth - along those lines!

Thought I would post a little update on my tank, removed a few species and added Nana. The Blyxa Japonica was started from three little plants, I now have ten. Any comments and suggestions would be great.

It's dark blue, seems to photograph like it's black at top fading into blue.

Thats an awesome looking tank! I think that you did a great job with it. I particuarly like (40gal 6-17-05 #2). It looks like the bottom of a pristine lake with the slope giving it the appearance that it is dropping off into a creek or river channel. Very nice!
