**3/6/12 - Beginning**
I had some Fire Reds in my 29g and needed to get them their own tank. I watched the CPDs chase them around a too many times. Any hope of raising young shrimp would have been gobbled up.
The EBI kit is pretty solid. A well built tank, great substrate, and a good light. I may end up going with a small canister filter in the future, but for now the stock one does just fine. I've heard that shrimp prefer more surface area, but didn't want to go with a standard 10g or 20g long. Several accounts of people growing a moderately sized colony in this size tank was good enough for me.
I filled it with water strictly from the 29 and put in some mulm from the sponge filter yesterday. I also threw in some different types of excess moss and plants from both of my other tanks. I'm really hoping the mini pellia does okay in here, as it's one of my favorites.
The shrimp went in today, just about 10 of them I think. I put a tiny bit of food because I don't want to overload the bene bac I transferred from my established tank. I've started a few other tanks this way, but I know shrimp are especially sensitive to water quality. Hopefully all goes well.
