Suggestions For My 29g planted
Hey everyone just joined up here on plantedtank.net. I've been browsing the forum while setting up my new 29g tank and figure I'd take the plunge and register. Been doing Reef and Saltwater for a long time and now trying my hand at a planted tank. This is what i got so far:
-29g glass aquarium 30x12x18
-Sunlight Supply T5 Tek Light 4x24w
(2x Giesemann Powerchrome Midday bulbs 2x Giesemann Powerchrome Aquaflora bulbs)
-1 1/2 inch of Miracle-Gro's Organic Choice Potting Soil mixed with 1lb of red clay and capped with 1 1/2 inch of black inert sand.
-Hardscape is just some smooth river rocks.
I've decided to start the tank using the Dry Start Method. I've already saturated the sand and soil. Planted the left side of the tank with Micro Swords and the right with Dwarf Baby Tears. Then covered the tank with saran wrap.
I'm running 2 bulbs for 2hrs in the AM. Then 4 Bulbs for 8hrs. Then 2 bulbs for 2hrs in the PM. Is that a good light cycle?
From sand to top of tank is 14" and the light is suspended another 4" above that. Should I raise or lower the fixture, or keep it were it is?
I was going to cap the soil with Eco Complete, but was afraid that would be too much nutrients so I used inert black sand. Now that I've planted the plants I see the roots are very short. Am I going to have a problem with the plants getting nutrients with the 1.5" of sand above the soil?
Thanks for all the help. It's a strange twist from being the one on the Reef forums answer question to the one asking them. Thanks again.
