Hey! Thought I would post some thoughts and pic or two of my stuff. I had a small (15g) for about 2-3 years and had a plant or two at any given time with a handfull of fish to go with. Needless to say, once you are bitten with Aquarium Fever, you just cant have one small tank. Noooo, bigger is better.
So, I saved my Christmas $$ and found a 55g that I am putting together. I started this February (2/11/12) and love the size and activity of the fish. Here is what I have so far:
Small Drift Wood
Some sort of Crypt (from old tank)
Some sort of sword? (from old tank - cut down cuz of GSA)
Fish (all but the Rhasboras came from a previous tank):
(2) Balloon Mollies
(2) Black Skirted Tetras
(2) Fancy Guppies
(2) Calico Plecos
I put in FloraMax substrate (cuz it was cheap) and used some pathway rocks from the walk on the side of my house (pea gravel?). Not sure I like the gravel, but we'll see.
As for equipment:
Fluval 405 canister filter
Fluval 200W heater
Coralife 48" T5HO fixture with 6400K & ColorMax bulbs.
I have a 8" teracotta pot that I am thinking about hacking up and attaching moss to it to make a shelter of sorts for the fish to swim through. Thought about some other Rock feature or more driftwood. Dunno.
I did just order some plants from Da Plant Man. Looking forward to planting the stalks and crypts when they arrive.
Anyway, here are some pretty bare pics. Advice always welcome. Was trying to stay low-tech / low needs, but we'll see how long that lasts.
I know... I need background and plants to cover the mechanicals.
