First REAL Planted Tank w/ NEW PICS

Here's the plan.....

15 gal tank
1 Zoo Med Ultra Sun 6,500K Super Daylight Lamp - 18" 15w (T8)
1 4100K 15w Bulb
HOB Whisper 20-40 Filter
DIY Yeast CO2 with a nano ceramic diffuser

Substrate
Organic Miracle Grow Potting Soil
Latterite
Topped with course play sand

Plants
Echinodorus Parviflorus
Ludwigia Repens
Rotala Indica
Heteranthera Zosterfolia
Sagittaria Subulata
Microsorum Pteropus sp.
Amazon Sword
Vals
Anubias
Green Java Fern
Moss

Fish
Apisto Agasizzi Pair
6-8 Cardinal Tetras
BN Pleco

Other
Small drift wood on left
Small rock work on right

I plan on holding off on the fish for a couple of months until the aquascape is how I want it. What do you think about the plan (good or bad)?

I think a pair of apistos in that small of a tank with mates isn't a good idea. They'd wreak havoc on the whole tank.

Also you don't really need CO2 because your tank is low light.

Good luck with your tank!

Co2 is not required, but co2 is still beneficial in a low light tank. I agree with the apsito's though, they might terrorize any other fish in that tank if they decide to spawn

Ok I see your point. I will stick with just the apisto pair then. How are my plants with the lighting I will have? I have the nano CO2 infuser so I figured I would see how it worked with the tank. I have high pH water to so I could use the pH drop also.

PH is not going to really matter much more than stability of the water params. The only plants I do not think will do very well for you are listed below.
Ludwigia Repens
Rotala Indica
Heteranthera Zosterfolia

The stems will most likely loose the lower leaves when they get shaded by the new growth up top. Leave them in and see what they will do. i have not had luck with the zosterfolia at all, right now I have a bunch in a flora under high light and all the bells and whistles, and it still randomly turns black and dies.

The others look good, the amazon sword might eventually outgrow the tank, they get pretty big. But if you are on top of pruning on leaves that are getting too large, it should be fine.

I also have a 24" T5 55w 9325K light that I could take off my cichlid tank if that would be better. Any thoughts?

So I decided to rig up a DIY light with 2 T8's over the tank with a DIY hood. Now I have 30w. The current light I have is a 6500k and the other one I bought from HD is a 4100K (only option). From what I have read, the 4100k will be good, just may not look the best. Any thoughts?
