5 gallon Rescape: Feel free to give suggestions!

Here is my first ever attempt with a freshwater aquarium. Without knowing much about tanks, I used a gravel substrate to start off.

I currently have 30 W CFL bulb (from a desk lamp). I only use the LED lamp for 2 hours in the morning, shining the light directly onto some plants that are not receiving light from above. Dosing the recommended dose of API CO2 daily, but thinking about adding DIY CO2.

Flora: DHG, HC, Wisteria, Anubias, Bacopa

I really like your lay out. Clean and simple. The only thing I would change is the gravel.

Currently out of the hobby

I'd like to change out the gravel too: any suggestions on how to switch it out?

Also, I'm planning on putting Xmass moss on the rock in the center. Thoughts?

Unfortunately, the only way to replace the gravel is to redo the whole tank. If you decide to switch out the substrate, I highly recommend this:

It comes in midnight black which really shows off the colors of your plants and fish. Plus it reduces fish stress.

As for fish I recommend Boraras merah (around 6)
Have you checked out Franksaquarium.com? it's a great place to get some.

this would look so much better without blue gravel... I wouldn't do moss on that rock, it's too round for that, plus moss is a pain to trim. Maybe have some behind it?
If you do decide to switch out, akadama is amazing. nilocg in the powerseller section sells it in whatever quantity you like. It's not inert, and has high cation exchange too, since it's unbaked clay.

Update: Bacopa/wisteria are doing well... DHG not so much. I'm slowly adding small layers of aquarium sand over the DHG to help it propagate. Any more suggestions?

a better deal to go with is go to tractor supply, and buy 50lb bag of black diamond blasting sand for pretty much the same price of the petsmart sand. picked mine up for 8.47 yesterday, plus you have more for future tanks

So I've compiled some ideas that I've seen in others' tanks, and came up with the following rescape (containing a cave for my Blue Ram, even though it now seems he doesn't want to use it...). I'd love some suggestions/advice! Note: I plan on taking the large rock and growing X-mas moss on it (removing it from the aquarium for 1-2 weeks, and allowing the moss to grow emerged). I also have Round Pellia that I'll add to the right-side of the tank.
