40 Gallon, Low Tech. (New Plants!)

So this is the month to start my 40 gallon revamp. I was gonna get a 75 gallon and start fresh but with school coming up I don't think I could have handled the maintenance. It's funny because I was actually in the middle of getting the fish into bags and take them to a fish store and then sell my 40 gallon for money but my mom talked me out of it because she knew I was gonna regret it. So I decided to keep the fish I've had for so long and completely revamp it.

I'm completely open to advice and could really use your guys insight and experience to make this and awesome tank.

Heres what i'm working with. Now keep in mind that the reason the 40 gallon is so empty is because my room was recently remodeled by me and I was planning on breaking it down to get a 75 gallon.

Also heres my 20 gallon right next to it in the closet. I also have a 12 gallon but thats gonna get broken down and the cory's and kuhli loaches with go in the 20 and the plants...well I'll decide which tank to put those in once and the stuff is ready and setup.

Now for the new toys SO FAR.

New eheim 2217

And as for the lighting I'm waiting on my hagen t5 glo that should be here by tuesday with a giesmann aqua flora that i purchased from aqua cave. Unfortunately they didn't have a midday bulb so I bought that separately and it arrived much earlier than expected.

So everyone I would REALLY appreciate advice on plants the aquascape itself even pics for inspiration. Also this gonna be a low tech tank with the lighting hanging about 8 inches above the aquarium.

Thanks!!

If its in the budget I recommend some more driftwood, something branchy like manzanita. As far as plants I think some big leafy plants would look good if you can get them to grow tall enough. And just a heads up, those clown loaches are going to get massive.

Yes I'm for sure getting new drift wood. And ya I know about the clowns. Once they get too big for the tank they are gonna go.

I might even just get rid of them when setting everything up. I feel bad because I know they need a bigger tank. I also have a big yoyo loach. But I'm worried If I bring them to my LFS someone will buy them and put them in an even smaller tank. =/

I agree. Who would have thought people could get so attached to fish..

It'll be hard but hopefully they will get bigger homes.

quick little update.

So today I went go my parts for the light fixture that arrives tomorrow and will hopefully be going up. Its going to be hanging from the ceiling from a very small chain link chain and should look really sharp once up.

Heres some pics of the stuff.

Let me know if you wanna see the chain laying in a straight line.

Thanks for following my revamp guys!

I think it looks awesome and I can't wait to see it turned on in the morning. I'll post pics of it on tomorrow.

So did some good work today, not done yet but I have to go to dinner with some of my family friends.

I got the AMAZING piece of driftwood in my tank today. PlaintBrain really came through.

Check it out! keep in mind the plants haven't gone in yet and those anubias won't be used they are there temporarily.

close up.

Also that heater won't be there as well. temporary.

And looky what came in the mail today.

I also got rid of the clown loaches and yoyo loach. The LFS owner did me a favor and put them in his 300 gallon show tank. yay!
Also put the pork chop rasboras in. They were in QT for about 3 weeks.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!

WHOA! Talk about a cool filter! Looking forward to what you are going to do with this thing. Oh, and quick question: What substrate are you using?
