Boatboy6's 20 Long

I picked up a 20L from petco's $1 per gallon sale. Ive moved everything from my 10g into it and will be turning the 10g into a quarentine tank.

Filtration:
Eheim ecco 2232
Tom rapids 80 (from old tank to help cycle temporarilly)

Lighting:
Fishneedit.com 30" (wish i had gotten the 36") 2x 24w T5HO

CO2:
Diy

Substrate:
2x bags of eco complete black

Flora:
Hygrophila polysperma 'Rosanervig'
Didiplis Diandra
Limnophila sessiliflora
Java Fern
Crypt (no idea what specie(s)

Fauna:
1x Gourami
2x Serpae Tetras (temporary)
3x Corydoras (not sure what species)
4x Ottos

According to hoppy's light chart it says that i am in the too much light catagory, but it dosent seem that bright to me?

FTS:

Sunset Hygro:

Crypts:

Java Fern:

Diy co2 system, does anyone have any suggestion/improvements/see any problems with it?

The driftwood will be replaced by a nice peice of manzy from plant brain.
I also would like to grow some HC and DHG as a carpet.

Great start!

If your gonna go high tech and get nice t5ho lighting and awesome wood from plantbrain, why not get a pressurized co2 system? I only spent $170 for mine. $100 for solenoid and needlevalve + accesories, $40 for a tank, and $30 for a used regulator.

But it looks great i twill look excellent when it grows in.

Also, I felt the same way with my t5ho setup. Hoppy's chart said it would be bright light but it wasn't... I got better bulbs: GE starcoat 6500k. They are atleast 2x brighter and the tank is very brightly lit. $30 for me at Aquacave. Only took a day to ship too since they came from Chicago I'd look into getting the bulbs replaced. The ones they come with aren't very good usually...

Ha ha, he he! DAncE whEn yoU're HAPppy! He he he! DAnce, danCE, DANCe!

You may have light and/or algae issues because of too much light and not enough CO2, etc.

Thanks for the input guys.

For the co2 I've been looking at the aquatek regulator as a start when I get the cash. Itll be diffused into the tank through an inline reactor. I'll add another bottle of yeast when this one runs out

I'll look into some better bulbs when I get the pressurized co2 system setup. Maybe these cheap bulbs will keep the lighting low enough that I won't have algae problems. Maybe I should stock up on excell now...

That DIY system is SWEET.

It looks like a bit of a PITA too though...

How so? The only thing I don't like about it is making the co2 mixture.

Went to my not so local LFS today to pick up some more plants. I ended up leaving with some blood stargrass (Didiplis Diandra) and a plant that im not shure what its called, but it looked cool, so i got it.

Nice tank!
The un-ID'd plant is probably Limnophila sessiliflora.

Got my wood in the otherday. Let it soak for 5 days, and then put it in the tank, it had not totally sunk yet so i added a rock ontop of it in the tank to keep it down. Probably not my best idea, but i was getting impatient. I also moved the Limnophila sessiliflora from the right side of the tank becaue it was acting like a screen for my filter intake and getting covered in a bunch of junk. I can believe how fast the sunset hygro is growing. Im going to have to get rid of some soon, but im not shure if it is legal to ship? Something about being an invasive species i think. I am planning on getting some Ludiwigia sp. "red" and putting it where the stargrass is and moving the stargrass to behind the wood. I also would like to find some dwarf hairgrass to start a carpet around the wood and some moss (im thinking peacock) to attach to the branches of the wood. Is there some type of flowering plant that i can attach to the wood that is out of the water, i think that might be cool. I also added another bottle to my diy co2 system. Im now getting about 1bps insted of 1 bubble about every 3 seconds. My lfs says they will take my 2 agressive serpae tetras, so then i can get some shrimp and smaller fish species. Here are some pics:

What is the purpose of the extra bottles after the initial ones with the mixture? Just curious because I always just ran it straight from 2 liter to tank when I did diy co2

Just to increase the amount of co2 going into the tank because I was told that one bottle may not be enough with how much light I had. I waited to add the bottle till after the first ran out so they would be running at about the same rate

Oh, you mean the other 2 bottles! The first one is a list like a filter and overflow. Any condensation or solid waste from the mixture bottles will drop into there and not go into the tank. The second bottle is a bubble counter so I can see how much co2 is going into the tank and it makes it easier to tell when the mixture bottle starts to stop making co2
