Talking my first ever competition tank. crits welcome

hi guys i havnt posted in awhile since i didnt have much to post about and have had exams ect going on but in september last year i entered my first aquascaping competition, it only ran for about 3 months and i think it looked ok for my first sserious scape. it was kinda a trial run for a comp i'm entering this year that'll be similar low tech kind of setup just bigger, most of the components in this tank will end up in the new comp tank. so down to business...

std 1ft lid less
via aqua pf80 internal filter
small resun heater.

plants
anubias nana
pixie lillies
flame and christmas moss
small crypt (pls id if you can)
later microsword was added.

livestock
deltatail betta splendens
zebra nerite snail
hara jerdoni

so this was a comp for a low tech nano and it was alot more challenging than i thought it would be. i had a few problems with the pixie lillies losing leaves constantly and eventually fixed the problem with supplemntary root feeding. i added the microsword to hide the lily bulbs and the crypts were doing really well. about a month in i got 8 galaxy rasboras and i love them! they are such awesome lil fish and it was fun watching them grow and colour up since they where really tiny when i got them. i dosed daily with 0,4ml of excel and 1ml seachem ferts weekly and added a desk lamp for extra light. personally i love my scape even though i didnt win and it was great experience, my favourite part it the wooden ring with the anubias on it especially after i got rid of the moss.please feel free to make crits and comments as i'm trying to learn from this for the next comp.

i eventually had to put my delta tail in quarentine sine he got a fungus infection and put Kratos my double tail in there with the galaxies. so those are the last few. enjoy the pics they not very good i gota work on my photography skills too.

Tannins would look nice. Can add peat to filter or indian almond leaves.

I think the tank looks pretty great. I don't know if these are the pictures you used for the competition and you may already know this but you might want to consider improving the photography of the tank ie no reflections, hide the knife etc and also a good idea to remove equipment when taking pictures for competitions.

You might also want to look into taking out the gravel and adding sand. it will look a bit more natural.

thanks @wetworks, i've been wondering for ages. just finished changing the substrate and wow! i thinned the plants out quite a bit and it looks soo much better. i just couldnt wait to use the soil and since i'll only be able to get the other tank sorted til next week i decided i just had to do this tank in aquasoil. i think i'll be changing all my tanks to this as soon as i can. i just wish i could have shrimp in here, i think theyed look killer and the fish seem happy too. pics will follow as soon as the water isnt cloudy.

so here are the pics of the new substrate the tank is alot more open for some reason and alot less cluttered and i really like it. i've added a lil hm to the right back area behind the wood and i think if i keep the pixie lily trimmed will constrast well. i'm also sure my galaxies want to spawn. does anyone know how to tell males from females?
