I had similar problems using those hardware store needle valves. Snap a quick shot of which kind you have and I might be able to talk you through it.

The plant with long thin leaves on the left doesn't look like an aquatic plant to me

Try the the thick clear tubing GLA sells, it good tubing and I would guarantee a snug fit after you got that ferule on there.

Also you need to check out the fraternity of dirt they might have some good info for you and always need new members.

One more thing, if you put a link to your journal in you signature the people you are talking to will be able to find your journal. Something catchy like "Get'n Dirty wit Big O" or "My Dirty 29" you get the point.

Actually in theory that ferule should squish as you tighten it but make sure to use 2 wrenches, one on the fitting and one on the nut, unless it's really loose then you might need new tubing, I personally like the fat tubing because it is so tight.

I was looking at that one too, to get a good answer post a closer photo in the plant section and just ask for an ID and someone will let you know, but you need a good photo.

Don't pull them til you get a good ID.

One of your dirt brothers is in the second post here.
