Ten gallon planted

This is my 10 planted. It has DIY Co2, DIY hood with 2 23 watt CFL bulbs, 2 aquaclear 20 filters, 50 watt heater, medium sand substrate.

Plants

Anubias Congensis
Echinodorus Tennellus
Lilaeopsis Mauritius
Dwarf Hair Grass

Fish

1 Male fancy tail guppy
1 female fancy tail guppy

The tank was originally gonna be a dwarf puffer tank but my son really wanted guppies.

Well the tank has been running for 2 weeks now. Plants are growing good. The Co2 is slowing down now probably gonna have to mix up a new batch. The fish have changed there are 3 female guppies can't seem to keep a male one everyone I get dies. Gonna have to get a snail to control algae.

Whats your diy hood look like, jus curious? The fish are prolly dying because the tank hasnt been cycled long enough if it has only been running 2 weeks. Cycling is letting the tank produce small microorganisms with in the tank via water column, substrate, plants, and filters. This usually takes about a month or so. Guppies are tough fish so that explains your females. You can get away with others like goldfish but most fish will die if the tank hasnt had time to cycle and stablize. The algae you are prolly experiencing is diatoms which comes with new setups. Wiping it off and doing water changes and having snails eat it will get rid of it. And with DiY co2 you want to try to keep it consistent if possible or it will cause swings in your water parameters.

The tank is cycled the filter ran on another tank of mine for a month. This tank has just been set up for about 2 weeks. The hood is pine 1"x6" planks on 3 sides with 2 23watt cfl bulbs. It was very easy to build I am fixing to build one for my wife's 55 gallon tank but I am gonna use 4 or 6 cfls in it not sure how many yet. I am also gonna build a hood for my 12 gallon tank that I just built.
