Moss wall galore! My 5.5g shrimp tank

I finally got tired of looking at my clippings dump-off 5.5g tank. It had so much crap in there that it took me forever to do this project. I plan on doing all walls as moss walls but i ran out of moss so i only did the floor and back. I bought the needlepoint at michale's and it was about 60cents a sheet. so very cheap project. I don't know the name of the 2 mosses i have, sry.

I'm not sure if i was suppose to pull some of the moss through the needlepoint. if i was then i am SOL because it will be a pain to do it at this point lol.

It will probably try to reach up for the light. Just give it some time. Did you lay it out thinly? If it's too thick, it will die out.

You don't need to, eventually it grow up through the little holes, took my moss about a week to do it.

Nothing Ventured. Nothing Gained.

now that i think about it there were some sections where i did leave it kind of thick. I put a lot though so hopefully it pulls through.

A Week?!? . that's crazy fast. i hope mine grows through fairly quickly as well so that i may trim and start the sides. i'll check out your tank now

EDIT: checked it out and it looks great. I hope to have my whole tank covered in moss in a few months.

me neither . I must have lost a good 100 baby rcs in this overhaul. they were too tiny to net one by one and most ended up MIA

I found some black plastic mesh at home depot or lowes in the lawn/garden section. The holes are much larger and from my limited experience allow the moss to grow through the mesh much faster since more of it is exposed to the light. The black is also much more appealing to the eye

PM me if you are interested. I can send you a picture of it. I will ship you as much as you want for the cost of shipping. I have a bunch and will never use it all.

Daniel

It will take it a week or so to start to poke through... probably 3-4 weeks to start to fill in if everything is good for growth. Trimming it at that point will help it branch out more.

The tank eventually got so overgrown with moss that I kept taking it to my larger tanks. Eventually I ended up giving all the moss (ROAK) locally.

Damn, I thought the idea of moss on all sides would be pretty cool.
