First Journal ever 29 Gal

Alright first off I am going to let you know that I have never had a planted aquarium before... I have always love Cichlid tanks! but after a recent return from a deployment to Afghanistan I have decided it is time to get a hobby that will take up as much time as possible... LOL

Tank was set up yesterday I was way to into setting up plants and what not to be taking pictures... sorry but really you get to see all my hard work and ridicule me relentlessly.

I woke up this morning and looked at it and I like it. I dont like that it has to grow in... I want it to be a mature tank... NOW

here are some specs.

Tank: 29 Gallon

Lighting: 2x 10K 55W CFL

Substrate: Mix of older Aquasoil and new AZOO Plant Grower Bed

Plants: Here is where I am still learning. Can someone please help me out by Identifing my plants. I know I have some Christmas Moss and Narrow Leaf
Vals. but other then that I have no idea what plants are in there.

Creatures: 1 Otto, about 10 Ghost Shrimp, 1 CRS.

Filtration: Marineland C-160 (Listen I know it is not the Ehiem but I still like it, it works for me) lots of Bio filtration and filter sponges no carbon.

CO2: I have a legit regulator for a tank... but I have no tank. SOOOoooo Rockin an awesome DIY (works Alright I suppose) I just dont know if the CO2 that is produced is as good as CO2 from a tank.

Ferts: Pferts P, K, N, M. and Iron

alright that being said... I know my light fixture is super ghetto but it will have to work for now. until I make a light stand.

Be Honest with your opinion. Thanks!

The stem plant with the reddish undersides on the leaves is Ludwigia repens. Little foreground one with the "music note" leaves is a Marsilea, maybe M. minuta, and the tall feathery stem is a Cabomba, probably C. aquatica.

Tank looks nice, just needs to fill in a bit - which it will soon enough, fear not. The Cabomba is a quick grower and the Ludwigia should color up nicely under your lighting

Nice tank. You should see if a paintball tank adapter will work for you co2 regulator. If it does buy a 24oz tank from sports authority their pretty cheap,
better than buying a 100 dollar 5lb from gaspro. I'm very new to this planted tank scene as well so I have been doing a lot of research.

Rummy noses are great fish! Difficult, but fantastic. I like your co2 counter, is that something you made or purchased?

Without Algae, death of mankind would be inevitable.

Very nice piece of drift wood you got there my friend, but Im kinda scare with the light. I think its an accident waiting to happen. My suggestion is to drill 2 holes on the top of the fixture, screw in a hook and suspend it using a some cables and pipes you can get and bend from a local hardware store.

yeah I already got some copper piping that I am going to put together after work today... It is suprisingly sturdy right now though... thanks for the concern though my wife was the same way lol. my response was prolly not the best "I was shot at in the Stan... I DO WHAT I WANT <--- in a cartman tone... lol" then she calls me retarded and we go about our business.... but the light is still on there... its a small victory..
