100G Rescape and Intro to CO2

Thought I would make a journal for my 100G since it is getting pressurized CO2 the end of the week. I did a huge clean/rescape on the tank today. I tore out literally everything and gave the substrate a good siphoning plus I added 2 more bags of EcoComplete to darken it up.

Here is where I began...an overgrown low tech neglected mess

Out came the plants and hardscape:

Wound up with 2 20gallon toes worth of plants.

After I finished up the substrate I added the new hardscape...thanks to TheDriftWoodStore.com and some locally collected rocks.

Then back went some of the plants. I have some vals planted along the back glass but they are still pretty small.

Probably 4 square feet of fern

Two barbels up for the fresh clean tank and the rescape?

I just placed an order to LiveFishDirect for a few more Brilliant Rasbora, Rosy Barbs and some Flying Fox. They are having a really geat clearance on fish right now if anyone is interested.

I like it. I would have backed off on the java fern a bit to let the DW come out some, but its still sharp looking!

Nice job Jenn.

I still may take some of the fern off the wood...I am on the fence on the amount which should be present on it.

I melted my anubias with an Excel dip. Here is the tank now:

Wound up putting my reactor inside the tank...couldnt get the darn thing to stop leaking and I feel more confident with it inside the tank since I frequently am gone on weekends. The plants will grow and hide the tubes and the reactor itself.

Thanks!

First time it has happened to me, I dipped the leaves which had some algae and 2 days later every leaf I dipped melted away. The plants looked like crap so I tossed them. Very strange, I have also dipped anubias in Excel several times before without issues.

Update, I have been doing serious trimming of the swords and Apon each week to remove all the old growth. It is filling in nicely...I will be planting some E. tennellius or C.parva along the front left soon. I had a nice carpet of Blyxa but the Angels destroyed it. I am also over a month into my first 20oz bottle of CO2. I had expected it to be a pain, although less of one than Excel....but it has also been very much a set it and forget it thing. I expect to get atleast 6-8 weeks per bottle. I credit the reactor, no gas goes to waste so I can get away with injecting less and saving myself time and money later
