Future 15G DIY rimless

Hey everyone,

Decided that I'm going to take down one of my tanks in order to do a build for a 15G rimless tank...

Tank will use most of the equipment I already have...

Tank demensions - 24X12X12. (similar to ADA's 60-P)
using 1/4" plate glass, possibly going to drill the tank for a strainer type intake so there's no pipes out of the tank...

More to come DD

Definitely interested in this. I'm hoping to build a 36"L 6"W and 9"H for a window sill tank.

That'll be cool I checked the safety factor for this sized tank with 1/4" plate and it's 3.5, so I'm not that worried about it. My 75G has 5/16" glass...

The glass is being cut as we speak. ended up being 35$... ehh no big deal.

Very impressed and satisfied with his workmanship. Everything was cut within 1/32" tolerance, to be expected. The edges were seamed, which means no sharp edges.

**Anyone who wants glass cut in the Raleigh area, check out Fuquay Glass Co....Great ol' mom and pop place and they do quality work. I have and will deal with them again, soon***

Next weekend (Friday) I may put it together.. WOOT!

If I were to buy this size tank from Glass cages it would be 130$, and from ADA it would be over 200$...

Now, my first silicon job on a tank. I have worked with it in other applications, just not a tank...hehe.

Well, it's together..

I'm not very impressed with my work with silicon though. I'm definitely going to do a 2 week water test just to be sure it won't leak. Next time I'll probably put more silicon on the joints and then just have to take the extra off.

It's been a great learning experience either way though!

note to self, silcon is like frikin grease on glass. it kept trying to slide but we just taped her up and its staying in place. I put a silicon bead around the inside seams and took a credit card to smooth out seams, my experience is not what others is.. It made a somewhat sloppy seam.

Leak test tomorrow... if im lucky i won't have a leak.. but knowing my luck lately... i will.

My silicon skills SUCK. But there is 2 of the 5 inner beads that look very nice, just a little razor blade to clean up the little thin strip and im good to go!

oh and i wouldnt worry about the silicon work at all, "practice makes perfect" there really is what does it for sure, i know i couldnt do it right off..i guess the only advice i can offer is just dont 'settle' anywhere, since its a custom size and tank and everything, itll be totally worth it to make sure you get it as perfect and right as you can/want it beforehand, as once its filled, we both know its a lot harder to fix or change anything :/
anyways, best wishes and regards and yeah, looking forward to what you do with it ^^

it's filled to the very brim... no leaks so far! I'm going to let it sit outside for a few days with a seran-wrap cover, otherwise my dogs will be drinking it >.>

There's absolutely no bowing at all in this tank with 1/4" glass.

pictures soon!!!
