Betta home - 20 long dirt tank.

Day one after a major overhaul. The tanks been up for a month or two, but I wanted a nutrient rich substrate.

Tank: Standard 20 gallon long.
Filter: Eheim Ecco 2234 and maintaining an AC20 HOB
Heater: 100 watt in tank fluval.
Lights: 4 6500K cfl spirals, 81 total watts.
Substrate: MG Organic Choice topped with Black Diamond sand from TSC.
CO2: Ocean spray Yeast Generator, hilarious bubble counter, Cerges in-line reactor, eBay drop checker
Dosing: None
Stocking: Full.

1-Male Betta Splendens
7-Glowlight Rasboras
2-Zebra Nerites (4-5-11)
2-Olive Nerites (Temporary)
7-Pygmy Cories (4-5-11)(4-22-11)
3-Amano Shrimp (4-22-11)
1-CPO Crayfish (6-30-11)
?-MTS

Red wendtii crypt
Green and red unknown crypts
Contortion vals
Amazon frogbit
Blyxia Japonica
L Aromatica
Java moss
Anubias Nana tied to driftwood.
Helianthum Tenellum
Najas sp. Roraima
Rotala sp. Butterfly

All these plant were transferred over from my 10 gallon that I'll be breeding CPDs in, so all these weren't needed in there.

I'll update more when I have a bit more time.
Yesterday.

Then I changed it all. Dirt substrate with a sand cap, moved most of my plants and am getting ready to breed in the 10.

Nice tank! Your plants look extremely healthy/beefy Good job. The Black Diamond Sand looks good too.

Once this clears up and grows in a bit it will be awesome.

Once I up the light, and I will probably try to add something for the foreground, but for now is just a tube of gravel for the bacteria.

Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad they look healthy to someone else.

I will be adding co2 to this in the near future; I'm planning to do yeast co2 delivered via a diy reactor, but I need to see what is going on via a drop checker that I'm expecting any day. I'm TRYING to take it slow.

Not bad for a free fish from a wedding reception.

Lol... Free fish... That's comical at this point.

I took a peek into my ten gallon and low and behold I have atleast one free swimming fry in there! Looks like the CPDs didn't care if I was ready or not.

I've a better fts of the 20 today as well. I edited it a little, but tried to keep it minimal.

Stopped by Monfort today and picked up a pair of Pygmy cories, a pair of ottos, and a pair of zebra nerites.

I also picked up a small portion if black worms for the first time. And fir the first time since I've have this betta he got to eat live food.

Happy betta is happy.

I'm getting a bunch of algae and bacterial slime or whatever it is, but my fish seem alright. I've not seen any signs of melting yet. The frogbit has slowed in this tank, but it's relatively low light.

I need to get a diy spray bar made up to calm this jet down, but all in all, it's going well. I would love to have some shrimp in here, but I do not trust the tank yet, maybe in a couple months after this goo subsides.

Moe is all about these black worms, he's been checking out the plant they land on regularly. Maybe there will actually be something there today.

Current plan is to take it easy despite the algae. Once I get my drop checkers I'll mix up some yeast and put it into the HOB intake and see where that gets me, after that I'll build a reactor and install it on a day I can can watch the tank carefully. Once I get my co2 sorted I'll revise the lighting.

The plants are growing, they threw some deformed leaves the first day or two but now appear to be growing normal leaves with good color. I'll be better able to judge that next week.

So far I'm happy with the change.

That was, unfortunately, all they had at the time, I will grab 4-6 more the next time I see them. They seem to hang with the otos from time to time for now.

Thanks for the kind words.
