Local fish store had this listed as a "Clown Pleco" but I can find no info on it. Does anyony know what the actual name is? It is only about 3 inches long and I was told it will never get any bigger than that.

Thanks
Mike

The latin name of this fish is Panaque maccus aka Clown pleco aka clown peckoltia aka ringlet pleco aka candystripe peckoltia.

It was mislabeled peckoltia vittatta for many years but it has been reclassified a panaque. Rightfully so in my opinion since over fifty percent of its diet is wood- so a large variety of different kinds of soft chewable woods should be offered. Other than wood they are mainly carnivorous, and should be fed as such, with occasional green peas and spirulina wafers.

They reach a maximum size of five inches, more typically four, and grow at a very slow rate of about 1-1.5"/year. They can live over 20 years in an aquarium.

The piece of wood you have there looks like american drift, which is no good. you should get a couple of small pieces of Malaysian root wood and Mopani.
