Topless Fluval Edge office tank

I derimmed this tank a few years ago -- I bought just the glass tank and then housed a goldfish in it on the kitchen counter. The dimensions were just right where it'd fit under the cupboards and still leave enough room for my hands to get in it. Predictably the goldfish outgrew this after a couple years and now has his own 60p. So, as this has been sitting in the garage for a while, I thought I'd set it up in my office. Besides the Mr Aqua soil and the paintball tank, everything else for this tank I already had on hand from previous projects. Hopefully it's enough light/flow/etc to keep the plants growing w/o too much maintenance.

Equipment list:

6 gallon Fluval Edge
18w DIY light; link to how I built it is in my signature
Zoo Med Turtle Clean 511 canister filter; this is under my desk, not tank height for now, against Zoo Med's instructions...
Milwaukee co2 regulator on a 20oz paintball tank
25w Elite Mini heater, run inline w/ DIY PVC + Heyco cordgrip
Mr Aqua soil
Beach stones, harvested from La Push, WA; they raise kH slightly but not gH.
HC's the only plant for now. Will add an accent plant or two once it fills in more.

I did a dry start for a couple weeks but eventually got impatient. Filled it last night. Here it is today:

Nice start! I have a couple of these in storage and have never been able to commit to cutting the glass top out. Mostly because I find dried shrimp often enough around my open top tanks as it is and tend to stock small tanks with them. But there's a lot to like about Edge tanks in spite of the factory opening that my hand doesn't readily fit into. Look forward to seeing how this progresses and you might make me bring one out of hibernation with your project.

Nothing good happens fast in an ecosystem.
