Had hand surgery which prevented me from maintaining my tank as well as I normally do. Much longer times between WCs and just a lack of monitoring. This of course means algae problems!!!
Had a break out of BBA and staghorn.
I tried adjust lights and ferts to combat the issue and started regular weekly WCs and after about a month, it wasn't getting worse, but it wasn't getting better.

This is what I had on 4/19/2020

I started spot treating the bba with H2O2 on the smaller plants using a small syringe. I physically removed several stem plants and "painted" the H2O2 on the leaves to treat the staghorn.

Lots of bubbles from the H2O2.

Bump: After the spot treatment the algae was lessened and my otos seemed to be interested in it. I continued to spot treat every few days for the stubborn bits.

One week later

After a month of adjust the tank and spot treating I was still battling the bba so I moved to a more drastic approach, the "one two punch"

Its documented here: https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/2...treatment.html

I've never used Excel before, in fact I have never used H2O2 before either.

Basically it goes like this. Whole tank dose of H2O2 for 30 minutes. 50% WC. Double dose Excel and follow up with regular doses of Excel. I continued dosing Excel for a week till my next WC, then dosed right after it for the last time.

Its been about 3 weeks which brings this log up to date. While the plants are looking good, my rocks got really brown. It scrubbed off really easy so I am hoping its just dead algae. However I am noticing a brown growth at my substrate which does go below it. I've just been cleaning it up until I get everything else under control.

This has been my longest battle with algae for sure.

I've lost a lot of plant material from trimming staghorn and bba infected sections. My center plants got hurt the most. Its kinda sad to see it now, but it will grow back.

One week later and BBA is coming back. grrr.
I am spot treating with H2O2 to try to keep ahead of it

Might try doing 1-2 punch again and dosing excel for longer.
Sigh
