60cm Minimalist Iwagumi (a newbies attempt)

I have decided to embark on a new journey of aquascaping hobby. I have been on the fishkeeping hobby for almost 20 years
but not on the serious more difficult aspect of aquascaping.

So I think why not keep a journal and post here to get the best bits of advice I can get to get the best out of this hobby.

EQUIPMENT
tank: generic low iron tank 60 x 30 x 36cm
substrate : an aqua soil brand in China (I am living in China)
hardscape : dragon stone/ohko stone
plant : Monte Carlo : prefer this to carpet the whole floor instead of the more difficult HC.
light : generic 16 watts LED. a Chihiros A601 plus is on the mail.
filter : eheim classic 350
co2 : no plan to dose for now.
fertz : no idea what to dose. still doing my research.

Sharing some photos on the planting day.
Doing DSM currently on the 3rd day. Seeing some dead leaf on the corner lower part of the tank, reason why I want to upgrade my light

Best,
Monnette

2nd week update

yesterday is the 2nd week. not so looking good, there's some yellowing both from the old and few of the new leaf.
I do not know what is causing this. maybe the weather, it is getting warmer here in China.

- will adjust photo period to 10 hrs.
- misting 2x per day. will saturate more with water maybe to solve yellowing leaf problem.

there is more growth and it is starting to crawl on the substrate. hope it will get better on it's yellowing problem.

Thank you for stopping by at my journal Jamo. It will be a low-tech setup. Actually, I am now on the 9th week and just dosing excel from the 7th week.
I also started dosing a complete non-branded generic fertz (chinese-brand) dosing on a weekly basis from the 8th week.

this photo is the 9th week

Looking really good! I really like the dimensions of the scape and sleekness of the tank. I'm trying an Iwagumi for the first time as well and am at about the same stage. Subscribed!

Third Month Update with RCS and Rasbora hengeli

It was already 3 months since I have started this scape. So far so good.
It grows so slow but really worth it. I am loving it more and more.

Below are my current maintenance regiments:
1)weekly water change of 30%
2)weekly dosing of a generic all in one complete fertz
3)daily dosing of excel/ dose when the light is on
4)8 hrs of photoperiod with just 45% light of the Chihiros A601plus lighting
5) 2x per week feeding of spirulina to the shrimp
6)daily feeding of my rasboras

Hope this helps others who may have the same set up.

I will be updating this thread from time to time if there is some changes worth
sharing.

Best,
Monnette
