NightHedgie's 45G Adventure

I've been keeping aquriums on and off over the years, nothing serious. Early last year, I started planted tanks with a 15G (18"W) then a 27G (24"W) tank with citric acid/baking soda for CO2. After many hits and misses, in Nov 2017, I decided to try a slightly bigger tank, a 45G with better lights, and pressurised CO2, and this is where the adventure starts.

My tank is a 36"W x 18"H x 17.5"D 45G

This is my current lights and fertz regime

Lights 4 x 39W Aquazonic T5HO (2 x 6500K Super Plant and 2 x 12000K Super Sun) About 19" above the substrate

Substrate is black inert Euro Sand

Macro Dosing followed u again / Front loading
N 18ppm /6ppm/ 6ppm
P 3ppm /2.4ppm/ 2.4ppm
K 15ppm (not including the K from N and P)
Ca 25ppm
Mg 10ppm

KH 2.5 - 3dKH
GH 9-10 dGH

Micros - 4-5 times per week

Water change weekly 50%

CO2 - pressurised - using drop checker with 4dKH - nice light green / yellowish

My tank in Nov 2017, this is the initial scape, after hours of transferring plants and fish from my other tank

About a month later Dec 2017, plants were growing nicely and of course a few changes

In Feb 2018, had a disaster, probably i was trying out new micros from china, u know the saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
Growth was slow, plants turning brown, leave dropping like crazy etc etc etc

In March 2018, I had a bike accident, didn't recover till end April, so couldn't stick my hands into the tank to trim plants / maintenance, and it grew into a jungle

Then come June 2018, another disaster, Repens suffered the most, dropped leaves, nearly lost all of them. Got some new plants, so re-scaped

August 2018, plants bouncing back but not that great, still a micros problem IMHO, also learnt to take better photos with my handphone, learnt it from Greggz's tank journal

Come Oct 2018, although u cannot see it, I'm struggling with fuzzy algae and the dreaded BBA, with help and advice from burr740 and Greggz, plants and tank is starting to look better

And the Adventure continues

The tank looks great, especially the color of the plants. I like the layout.

Thanks, it's the photograph

The fuzzy green algae on the leaves

Anyway I did 50% WC twice weekly for a few weeks and kept up the macros and micros as best I could. The fuzzy green algae slowly went away, leaving me with the BBA

I figured it could also be bad flow, so the fertz couldn't get to all the plants, I installed the spray bar that came with my canister filter, but I drilled the holes much much bigger to make the flow less strong, have water flow but not have the plants sway like crazy ( as advised by Greggz)
