I think I will go back with macros. When I started heavier dosing, I noticed that ammania turns smaller, not so fat like it was. Also gda is a bit worse.
I tried it because I thought there was some imbalance between macros, it's not that. So there is no reason for my tank to get all these heavy macros.
Back to 15ppm no3 and 20ppm K. I don't know if I have to reduce po4 too, maybe no.

Hi,
GDA seems to return, but slower than before. Bad thing is it continues to develop on leaves. I will leave it as is for now, see how it goes. I have some new friends to help with:

I bought seven amano shrimps.

Also rotala green has a new neighborhood, in the trash . Just can't change my dosing schedule every week trying to satisfy every plant. I will keep plants that like as it is.

Aaaaand, while I was thinking to buy Siamese Algae Eaters, I found that I have already a Siamese plant :

Guys, I forgot to mention that I'm using sodium phosphate to increase po4.
You think there is something bad with sodium?
I'm just using it because it's cheap and very easy to find.

Hi all,
I finally bought a nice lighting fixture, odyssea 4x24w T5.
I was ready to order powerveg 633, but shipping cost is way too much.
I found another red bulb, osram fq 24/60. It's at ~600nm and it's way cheaper than powerveg, $18 incl. shipping.
May give it a try. What do you guys think?

Congrats on the new fixture!

Bulb will do just fine. I believe Osram brand is very common in Europe.

Hi again,
Osram red finally arrived but I didn't like it. It was orange, not red.
So I replaced it with another flora bulb.
Generally tank is not going good, don't know why.
It's about a month now that can't grow almost anything fine. I think substrate has something to do with that, roots are hard. I would already have changed it if it wasn't so expensive (seachem flourite black).
Wish me luck

Pretty sure its not the substrate

Try dropping K to 10-12 ppm/week and see what happens

If NO3 is still 15 you could just go with whats in KNO3 (assuming thats what you're using)

That'd give you almost 10 plus a dash from KH2PO4. I used to like more K than NO3 but lately me and some others are finding less works A LOT better, not just for Lythracaea but everything else too.

What's Mg like? I bet it would help to raise that a bit, say 2.5-2:1 Ca:Mg if you're not there already

I'm using sodium phosphate, not KH2PO4 (still not sure if this is good), so my K sources are KNO3 and K2SO4.
Ca:Mg is 21:7.

Raise Mg to 2:1

Why sodium phosphate? Can you not find the K form? It may not be enough to matter but there's no reason to add sodium if there's another option

Id just go with what's in KNO3 for K, no extra K2SO4.

This tank is only getting about 10 K/week, along with 25 NO3 (15 from KNO3 and 10 from Mg nitrate) and 5 PO4.

Mg 10/week with 40 Ca in the tap, which is close to 2:1 accounting for Mg accumulation. (10x2 and Ca stays the same)

I know it may sound crazy talking about K and Mg, not the usual suspects for sure, but just try it and see.

Ok so in 15ppm KNO3 I am using, there are 9.45ppm K.
I will just stay with that as an expirement.
You think will be good to raise KNO3 and po4 (now is 3) a little more?
Sorry, I didn't understand the Mg accumulation you said

Dont worry about my Mg accumulation Just raise yours a little to have a 2:1 Ca:Mg ratio

I'd stick with 15 ppm NO3. Wasnt that about what you were dosing before when the Ammannia looked so good? And didnt it go south when you increased it?

I was just showing you a tank of mine that's getting low levels of K. I wasnt recommending that you raise anything else in yours to match

The K you get from 15 ppm KNO3 should be enough (why I showed you mine). Then raise Mg to have 2:1 Ca:Mg.

As for PO4, 3 ppm/week sounds good. 4-5 might do better. It's hard for me to say for sure about that. I'd make those other changes first and see what happens, you'll know something after 2-3 weeks

Ok I just found monopotassium phosphate.
Is it the same as KH2PO4?
