Hyzer's CRS Shrimper Haven

I struggled with shrimp in the past and decided to go full RO for a CRS tank. Can't explain that bass ackwards train of thought... but surprisingly things seem to be going well after two months.

Hardware:
10G w/glass top
Two sponge filters with their own air pumps
Eheim Jager heater w/ bayite temp controller
Fluval plant and shrimp stratum
Finnex Planted + LED

Water parameters:
PH: 6.0
GH: 4-6
KH: 0-1
TDS: 130-150
Temp: 71-72

Flora:
Mini Pellia
Moss (Christmas or Java)
Small Crypt of some sort
Two types of floaters

Fauna:
Crystal Red Shrimp
Malaysian Trumpet Snails
hopefully not much else

Here's a photo journal:

7/18/18 - Just filled

7/19/18 - Added a few plants and things

8/24/18 - Added 8 great looking CRS my LFS ordered for me

8/30/18 - One of my best looking females

I added some more from a Kentucky supplier to diversify the tank.

9/18/18 - Full tank shot

Thanks for checking it out!

Nice pics! The roots from the floating plants add a nice effect to the tank.

Thanks tredford. The floaters help keep nitrate levels very low.

You can tell the plants are taking a back seat on this one. End game will probably be moving some of these and mixing other caridinas in my 40 breeder. I think a low maintenance (slow growers) medium light shrimp tank would be a perfect fit for me.

I'm surprised how long this tank took to stabilize. I lost 10 or so in the past few months but now have 40-50 including the little guys. Here's what seems to be working:

- 10-15% water changes w/ mineralized RO water every 3-4 weeks (when TDS reaches 140)
- Feeding a very small bit of food often (3-4 times per week)
- These parameters: GH 5-6 , KH 0-1 , temp 71-72 f , PH 5.8-6.0

The breeding activity I've seen recently probably has more to do with the tank maturing than any of the above. I'll try to snap a few shots of shrimp with my DSLR this weekend. Here's a picture of the tank:
