Nano 4gal Desktop

Hereís my new 4gal nano with the goal being low maintenance.

I started with cycled media from my 60gal but still dosed ammonia for 5 days to confirm cycle.

Iím running co2 24/7 @ 1bbl/13sec along with 14 drops of ThriveS 3x per week.

It now has 6 RCS who all seem happy.

Week 3 update:

Things are progressing nicely. The shrimp seem happy, even saw the first molt this morning.

The plants are growing great but Iím not liking the plant in the left corner. Itís throwing off the scale. I might move it to my 60gal. Just need to figure out a replacement. Thinking maybe Pearl weed since it has a small leaf and is easily shaped with trimming.

Any other suggestions?

I was thinking the exact same thing about that plant and the scale when I was looking at your first set of pictures. Pearl weed may be a good choice. Could also try some Staurogyne or stargrass for a similar look to the plant that was in there but with smaller leaves.

pogostemon helferi
staurogyne repens
bacopa sp compact
hygrophila corymbosa compact
lobelia cardinalis
alternanthera reineckii 'mini'

All these are good options for a smaller scale IMO.

Tank looks good so far!

Went ahead and replanted the left corner with something new as well as adding a few pieces of S. Repens

Looking forward to the new layout

Looks great! I'll be interested to see how it looks when it grows in a bit.

Greetings Nefarious, what is the name of the plant growing between the two rocks? Also, where did you purchase it at? Looks very nice and rapidly growing.

It's Hydrocotyle tripartita. You're right, it is growing quite quickly. In fact, it's getting bushing enough that I might have to trim it next week.

Much obliged. That's a plant to put on my want list for my next tank.

Forgot my weekly update yesterday. Not a huge change in the growth of the newly added plants but damn is that Hydrocotyle tripartita taking off.

Things are really filling in/out. The Hydrocotyle tripartita & S.Repens are doing great with noticeable growth daily. There’s a healthy layer of biofilm established for the shrimp to feed off of. Everything is going well.

I’ve had a steady stream of co-workers popping in to check out the tank and ask questions about the plants & shrimp. All in all, pretty happy with the way this tank has turned out.

Weekly update: I trimmed the Hydrocotyle tripartita last week but you’d never know it with how quickly it filled out.

New milestone over the weekend; came in to find the first shrimp molt.

I hate to be "that guy" but on most forums we refer to Hemianthus callitrichoides (Dwarf Baby Tears) as HC Just don't want any confusion...

Tank looks really good btw!

Hi there!

Beautiful tank and I think it was smart to change the plant choice.

I had a question, though. What light are you using?

Thanks!
