Hi all,

I'm new, but have lurked for awhile. I'm setting up a 40g breeder in my dining area and will be moving over flora and fauna from a 25g tall. I wanted to start a journal to keep track of the build and also gather advice when I misstep.

We built the stand and I have all of the equipment:
Eheim 2217, inline hydor heater, (wondering about getting a thermostat-what do you think?)eco complete capped with BDBS, Finnex planted plus which is running over my 25g on 24/7 mode and the plants there are liking it, especially my H. Corymbosa, which is turning pinkish on top. Hubby and I went to a store that sells reclaimed stuff and made a lid for the tank. We have a temporary lid handle that will be replaced eventually.

I'll be moving over some anubias Nana, a bunch of bronze crypt wendtii, the h. Corymbosa, and a ton of hornwort. Also a few dwarf water lettuce. The verdict is still out on whether the dwl like the 24/7 or not. I have one male Betta, 11 harlequin rasbora's, and two neon rainbows that will be making the move. MTS will be coming over and probably some pond snails, too. I'll be picking up Cory's and loaches, Pearl gouramis, and hopefully some threadfin rainbows, if I can find some good stock.

I have a nice piece of drift wood that I'm playing around with to see where I want it and what position. Now, on to pics, including a pic of my 25.

Apparently I've exceeded my quota for pics? Can't post a pic of my current set up. 😞

Subscribed. I'll look forward to watching this build.

I wish I had a) the space and tools and b) the talent to build my own stand. I have a 40B just waiting for me to find a stand to set it up on.

2x20-longs, one heavily planted. Platy rancher. They. Won't. Stop. Breeding.

I got the BDBS washed. It took me long enough. Moved some plants over, picked up some new ones, and found a few more in the Boise river. I know already I don't like the messiness of the moneywort. I still have anubias to glue down, so they are floating for now.

I still can't post photos. I'm apparently exceeding my quota? Anyone know what that's about? I have some pics I'd like to share.

Hygrophila corymbosa

Anacharis (from river)
Long grass from the Boise river(I may yank out)

So far, things are as I expected. Older leaves on the anubias are starting to show a little strain due to the new water conditions. I had to take out the anacharis and the grass I got from the Boise River. They were not looking good at all. The anubias hastifolia has dark brown blotches on the older leaves, but the flame sword has put out a huge brand new leaf that looks wonderful. The older leaves of the moneywort are turning a little bit yellow, overall, what I feel are probably typical things for a new aquarium. The Val is getting brown on some of the older leaves. I'm doing a water change every 2 or 3 days when ammonia and nitrite start to get a little high and dosing a bit of iron, potassium, and Trace elements.
