UNS 60U - Ideas wanted

Tank: UNS 60U
Substrate: Amazonia Aquasoil
Light: Twinstar 600E
CO2: GLA with inline diffuser
Plants: Who knows
Livestock: Amano (5), SEA (2), RCS (?), Cardian Tetra (6)

This tank has gone through a lot. Please look at the most recent photos and give me some advice on making it better. Moving plants, adding plants, taking out plants, anything helps.

Seeing some nice growth on the Monte Carlo. Also trimmed back a ton of dead parts.

1 week into DSM. It may not look like any growth, but I've cut back a lot of dead leaves from shipping and most of the portions are covered in new buds and roots. I'm hopeful that next week will see noticeable gains. Next time, I won't try to "plant" the monte carlo. I'll just lay it on top and let the root growth do it's thing. All the stuff I put under the soil ended up dying anyways.

Pretty dissapointed in this weeks growth. Many of the stems are much more covered in buds, but I'm not seeing a lot of expansion. Still pretty sparse. Any ideas?

I had big plans to keep the DSM going for 2 months, but then someone ROAKed me a ton of plants.

Flooded about a week ago, everything melted, some things died, but in the last couple days things have been growing like crazy.

Everything is organized like a mess because every time I touch anything, the aquaoil makes my water completely brown. Not really sure what to do about this. Daily water changes, and not touching the plants still make it look hazy like in the pic.

Starting to get some good growth. Rotala roundifolia is growing about 0.5-1 inch a day, which is nice. Monte Carlo is starting to bounce back. Everything is still a complete mess, but I'm trying to get healthy plant growth before I worry about how everything looks.

I should learn how to take good pictures. With that light blasting, it's tough. Feeling good about the growth and health this week. MC is really bouncing back. I'm saying in two weeks it'll be thriving. It's really hard to trim the dead parts off without cutting up the stems.

I usually do minor daily maintenance, but today I went crazy. I saw some algae on the MC, so I did a major trim (and now it looks really sad).

Also added 35 RCS this week.

Thinking of starting a second tank...

Haven't been updating because tank has been in a crisis and it's been demotivating to post. Algae wrecked my tank. I was coming home from work and hacking out 30% of my plants every day. Lost a few species altogether. Added some plants (echniadores, anubias) in the middle. Added 2 SAE. The algae crashed the tank for a couple weeks but everything seems to have recovered. Haven't seen algae in a week or so. I also lost a lot of shimp in a filter accident. Now I wish I would have taken some pics when the tank was at it's worst so I could see how much it has recovered...

I think the tank looks great! I have basically the same setup you do. I tried a couple times going full bore high tech but always came away with an algae farm. You might want to buy one of those cheap inline dimmers so you can dim the light a bit. I put mine down to 50% and haven't seen much algae at all ever since.

Thanks! That's my plan if I can't keep the algae down. But I feel like everything is really healthy right now so I'll keep up with full light until then. Can I see your tank?

Still recovering from the algae attack, but haven't seen algae for two weeks or so.
