Vin's 55 gal Planted Tank

Hello,

I recently started my first planted aquarium. Its a 55 gallon. I've had a saltwater setup for many years but decided to try something different and love the look of a planted aquarium. The tank will be placed in my living room and I'm going to try my hand at aquascaping. So far I have set up the tank and stand and custom built the canopy and lighting system ( with alot of help from other members of this forum). I used eco complete substrate mixed, put in some driftwood and filled it with water.

I want to take my time and learn everything I can with help from all of you. Please feel free to comment, give advice and your opinion as I go along.
Thanks,
Vin

Tank- 55 Gallon
Filter- Fluval 305
Fliter media- Polishing pads, Biomax, Pre Filter, carbon
Heater- Fluval E Series 200w
Substrate- Eco Complete mixed with sand
Lighting- GLO T5HO 2x54w one 6700k bulb, one 18000k bulb

Whats This?

Thanks, everyone

I've been waiting for my plants ordered from aquariumplants.com, once i get them i'm going to remove about 75% of the water, plant them, then add new water, ( so 75% water change).

Today i noticed this on all my driftwood.
Does anyone know what this is?

Looking good man. That stuff is fine. It will go away after a while. It won't hurt anything...

Smile Finally Planted

Hey, Its been some time but I finally received my plants Friday , planted them and did a 75% water change. Changed the filter media by removing the carbon and replacing it with fluval clear max. Now the water looks great.

I also added some fertilizer pellets to the substrate.

Also I recently bought a aqua medic 500 co2 reactor and placed it in the upper left corner of the tank. Is this a good place for it? It has a rio pump atached.

I think Im finally ready to add some fish

Fantastic planting! Are you worried about the window giving the tank too much light?

Thanks sewingalot,

The window is across the room and doesn't give any direct light to the tank.

Question Just some questions

Got my CO2 system working today and the reactor seems to be doing a great job of defusing the bubbles. I will get a list together of all the plants that I planted tonight.

I was wondering what supplements i should be providing the plants now that they are all in?

And should i also have an air supply going to the tank for oxygen?
