83 Gallon low tech tank
I have been reading the forum for the past few years (haven't posted much) but have been meaning to add a thread of my tank. I had a few tanks as a kid and decided to get back into it and build my own larger tank.
This is a low tech tank that I had built custom to fit a spot in our basement, we built it into a wall to use as a room divider. It has evolved a bit over the last two years, originally started up in March 2016. Tank itself is 36" long x 30" tall and 20" wide. I started with a Satellite Pro 36" LED, but found with the depth of the tank I wasn't getting very good growth with the plants, I have since supplemented the lights with 4-CFL bulbs and since then have gotten a lot better growth. Filter started out as an Eiheim but found the circulation was declining it seemed to lose power so I switched to Fluval and have been really happy with it.
I attached some photos of how it looked when I first set it up and also what it looks like today (apologies for the cell phone quality photos and the rotation). I have stuck with mostly crypts as they are my favorites, the planting is fairly simple. I was a bit disappointed looking back as I thought I had taken a lot more photos that what I have saved.
I prefer the slightly messy and overgrown look, so the view from the end of the tank is my favorite, that's where is sit and watch the most. I keep the maintenance pretty low, weekly water changes and liquid ferts twice a week.
