★★ Ethics [ 55g ] Revival Project ★★

Hey guys,

It's been a while since I have posted here and figured it was finally time to make a comeback.

Tank Specs

Tank Size - 55g
Lighting - 78 watt T5HO, 50 watt Flora Sun (2.33wpg)
C02 - Flourish Excel Daily dosage of recommended dosage
Filtration - 2x Whisper In Tank 40i's (340 gph)
Heater - 150 Watt Eheim

Fish

2x Bolivian Rams ( Male + Female )
3x Chinese Algae Eaters
2x Glass Catfish
1x Zigzag Eel
2x Harlequin Rasbora
6x Platinum Halfbeak
1x Vampire Shrimp
-x Ghost Shrimp
4x Unknown
2x Pearl Gouramis
3x Neon Tetras

Plants

3x Banana Plant
5x Compact Hygro
1x Unknown Lotus
1x Crypt Petchii
2x Unknown Anubis
1x Unknown Sword

So there are the specs, now for some pics of the tanks current state...

Now I know it look very bare for now, but the plants have been in there for less then 3 days. So let's give it some time to grow in

Here are some other misc pics of the inhabitants...

That's Eli the Zigzag Eel.

Banana plant.

This is the Platinum Halfbeak. This photo was one of hundreds, these guys are so tiny and fast it's almost impossible to get a photo of them. This guys is under 1" long and super thin.

The plant on the log is the species of Anubis that I'm unsure of so if anybody could ID that's be great.

Halfbeak breaking the surface of the water.

Banana Plant Leaves.

Pearl Gourami.

Ghost Shrimp.

Male Bolivian Ram.

Vampire Shrimp ( Pinchy ). Unfortunately after 3 years this guy is showing his age. His fans are becoming very difficult for him to use, I don't think he will last much longer.

Female Bolivian Ram.

Thanks for looking guys,
Mario

Thank you AZ, nice to see you are still around and actively working on tanks

I just went through your entire 90G thread and I must say I'm very impressed on all of the work you have put in from the stand to the plant selection. I can't wait to see the tank all grown out.

The tank looks nice and the photography is STUNNING! What kind of camera did you use?

Are you planning on increasing the number of the schooling fish? (tetras, rasboras, etc.)

Thank you llamas,

The camera is a almost 10 year old Panasonic DMC-FZ20 with no lens :X

I've been looking at upgrading to a Canon E0S 5D Mark II but I'm still looking for a good reason to pull the trigger on the purchase.

I might increase the number of tetras, but I feel as if my tank doesn't really have too much room for more fish ATM. We will see how things go over the next few months and consider adding a few more.

Thanks for looking,
Mario

Still not super happy with the overall look of the tank. Can't seem the get the plants placed in a way that looks appealing to me.

I think I'm just going to let them grow out a bit then decide on what my next move is.

Some new photos I managed to get today...

Thanks for looking guys,
Mario

Very, very nice pictures like always. I think you'll be more satisfied with your scape when you get more plants/after it fills in.

AzFishKid - Thanks, yeah I remember I kept re-scaping my old tank till it was completely full of plants, only then did I find a layout that I was truly happy with.

I think this one has too many gaps for now, will need to purchase more plants and let the current ones grow out to figure out which direction I really want to head with this.

It just really sucks waiting :-P

sewingalot - Thank you!

Here is a FTS, unfortunately it wasn't taken with my camera so the quality is so-so. I've moved a few things around, before it just seemed like everything was thrown in there randomly.

I really wish I could find some Pennywort locally, it was my favorite plant in my old tank and grew like a champ.

Thanks for looking,
Mario

Just did a huge water change so that I could slide the tank forward 5" and have access to the glass on the back of the tank.

I added a black piece of foam-core to the back to make the BG of the tank solid black. We'll see if I like it or not tomorrow once the bubbles clear up.

I managed to get a really nice overhead shot of the Platinum Halfbeak...

Thanks for looking,
Mario

Hey Guys,

So a few things have changed since my last update - New plants, new BG, new fish, and re-scaped the tank.

llamas - I have also purchased 12 Cardinal Tetras, they seem to be schooling very well although the Harlequin Rasboras seem like they take the title of master schoolers.

Questions

1. What is a good amount of time to keep my lights on, I used to have them on for 8 hours, but have recently upped it to 12 hours. Does this affect the plants?

Here is what the tank has gone through so far...

I'm fairly happy with the way it is now, It could use some more BG plants but I think I will just let it grow out at this point.

I also picked up some tiny RCS...

And finally here are 2 other cool shots I got...

Thanks for looking,
Mario

8 hours/day is plenty considering that you aren't running pressurized CO2. More than that will likely lead to lots of algae.

When you can take a picture of a dead fish and still make it look good, you know you're a good photographer. Amazing pictures! I'm super jealous of your photography skills. I know i've already said that like 3 times, but i can't get over how good your photos are!
