Another New Year 20G Long

Since Santa was nice enough to put a new 20G long under the tree, I think it should be a good idea to star the new year with a journal. The tank has taken residence in my home office under a west facing window. It came with a nice Petco stand.

I would like to set up a nice home for a pair of Apistos or GBRs once its up and going. It will a low-tech affair with java ferns, crytps, moss, and any other appropriate plants I can get my fins on.

+ 20G Long tank
+ Versatop glass cover (the twin tube type)
+ Petco stand
+ Eheim Ecco 2234 filter
+ Coralia Nano powerhead
+ Hydor theo 50W heater (hopefully the non exploding kind)
+ 24" Marineland single bright LED (like it for esthetic reasons)
+ Black Eco Complete substrate

I will post more pictures once I start with the hardscape later this week.

P.S. The other tank in the picture (blue gravel) is a 10G which will be decommissioned after this one is set up.

Your big betta tank is off to a good start, BM, and look forward to see the journal from orchidman.

Sadly, I might not be doing mine for a while. My computer died. So I may have to get a new one

But I read that the light you are using may not be effective. Just a heads up.

I got a couple of Pure Aquatic polyresin branches today. The one in the right is broken I might return it. The one in the left looks rather real. Any opinions?

I found the plastic driftwood here

http://www.aquariumguys.com/driftwood-decorations.html

I did now want to deal with tannins on this tank, my 40g has two big mopani wood chunks which are still releasing tannins after 3 months.

Tank got flooded today. Here are some pictures of day one. Anubias, a couple of java ferns, java moss, and some rotalas. Not sure if the rotalas in the background its going to take hold. Still missing are some crypts. Ordered some RootMedic capsules to put under the crypts when they show up.

Looks good! Needs a backer to cover up all that hardware.

Thanks. Yes, I definately do need something in the back. I still need to move the filter and fish from the old 10g into the new tank. Once I do this I will clean up the cables.

Yesterday I received some nice crypts from tbonedeluxe. Today two Bolivian rams from cichlidstore took residence on the tank. Hopefully they will be happy there.

Crypts are melting as expected, hopefully they will come back. Rotalas seem to be taking hold. Everything else look happy. Still waiting for my root tabs. B

Bolivian rams seem in good spirits, seems I got a male and a female. The female is always not too far from the male. Its cool to watch them swim.
