Coco's First Nature Aquarium

Hi guys my name is Coco from Houston Texas. I currenty have a 100gallon long dutch tank. I've been lurking this forum for quite sometime now and I'm really digging this beautiful Nature style planted tank. The driftwood, rocks, compostion, so different from a dutch style tank. After seeing all this beautiful nature style tanks I decided to own one.

Tank: ADA 60P Dimensions 60cmx30cmx36cm 17 gallons

Filtration: Eheim 2213

Lighting: Twinstar 600E

Co2: injected via diffuser

Hardscape:

Local Texas driftwood

Lava Rock (black)

Substrate: ADA Aquasoil Amazoia

Plants: Undecided

3 pcs of driftwood tied together using a fishing line

Room shots

This is my first time working with wood and rocks so I don't know how this will turn out after adding the aquasoil and rocks. Once I get the soil scraping will resume. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

To be continued.....

how dare you make pictures of wood inside a glass box look so artistic, mysterious, and sexy it's not fair

Today I’ve been moving my driftwood around the tank, trying to see what other scape I could create.

This is what I came up with 2 days ago using three pieces of driftwood.

I took out the left horn(longest piece)and moved the rest to the left, tilted it to the right and came out looking like this. I felt there is still too much space. Not satisfied.

I got the long piece and tried playing with it. The thing is just too big to play with! The best I could do is this. Not sure how this one looks, but I don’t dig it.

Having limited resources, what I did is I broke that long piece into two! I used the other half to create another island.

I think I like this better than the first I did. I hope I had more wood to play with, I might run to my LFS to pick up a piece or two of driftwood to complete the island. For now this is how it looks.

I like what you did with the second island. Looks a bit too symmetrical with the"upright" on the right side added imo.

TBH I loved the first hardscape, could have been one big island and positioned to the right or left a tad.

I think your materials lend themselves to a left oriented asymetrical scape, something like a nice island and rocks on the left with bolbitis and moss, open sand bed on the right with scattered rubble

I am not happy with the initial scape. I want something more. Something more to play with, its driving me nuts actually. I decided to to visit ADG (Aquarium Design Group) here in Houston to purchase some rocks and sticks, this place has TONS of aquascaping material! Im serious TONS! They even have a "Mock Tank" which I used for atleast an hour and a half. It felt really good! Laying all the rocks and driftwood on the floor just like the great Amano only without all the assistants handing him rocks and plants lol.

Here are the pieces I brought home with me

Texture

Here are the plants I’ll be using for this project.

Staurogyne sp. 'Porto velho'
Eleocharis Acicularis
Lilaeopsis Zelandiae “Novae"
Ludwigia Arcuata
Hydrocotyle tripartita mini
Crytocoryne Wendtii Bronze
Pogostemon helferi
Bolbitis
Nana petite
Vesicularia Ferreri
Hygrophila pinnatifida
Helanthium tenellum
Pogostermon Stellatus

Happy weekend to y’all!

So my plants arrived a week ago but I wasn’t able to use it for a week because I was still waiting for my Aquasoil. I was worried that the plants will die if I don’t plant them immediatley, good thing everything I ordered were tissue cultured except for the Bucephalandra which I placed in a container together with the Bolbitis and Anubias nana petite. Fortunately the plants were all good during planting day.

For the scape I decided to add the aquasoil first then start from there. I sticked with my plan of having two Islands surrounded by (mostly) Eleocharis Acicularis, a piece or two of helanthium tenellum and Lilaeopsis Zelandiae and some stem plant to give it a bit of a mix. For the backround I used Pogostemon stellatus “Dassen” and Ludwigia Arcuata. For the rocks, I chose pieces with lots of slits so I could insert the Bucephalandra, Bolbitis and hygrophila pinnatifida. On the the driftwood I placed the weeping moss some Anubias petite and some hygrophila pinatifida.

I will be doing 3x water changes (Sunday, Wednesday and Fridays) for the first month or until the tank gets stable at least. I will also do EI dosing. I will give an update of the tank after 1 week, I really hope everything goes well.
