Thank you!

The doser is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Jebao-DP-2-Pr...&keywords=dp-2

I don't have a better picture of the reactor, but it is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Sera-Flore-Ac.../dp/B0033GDCVC
And so far it's been great, dissolving the co2 nicely.

This is your first tank?! It looks fantastic! You don't normally see such initial progress unencumbered bynalgae and diatoms

Question: With the green plastic, did you leave it in the aquarium or pull it out after planting? How do you prevent the substrate from mixing?

It's my first yes. Thank you!

Well, the diatoms did start to show at the 3 weeks mark - check the big flat stone on the left from the jan. 18 pic and forward, slowly getting worse. I panicked a little until I read it's perfectly normal in new tanks. It didn't really get a chance to get bad as you can tell from the pictures. On the feb. 3 picture it's very clear that the Septaria porcellana snail is winning that battle
And a few days later, when I got the Oto's, the leaves on all the plants started to look greener again.
So I hope I have seen the worst of the diatoms for now

I just left it there. My guess is it'll take 50-100 years to dissolve and cause issues
I guess that also answers your second question ?

I used dirt and clay capped with gravel. And under the white sand (the river, hiking trail or what you prefer to call it) there is only gravel/sand, to prevent anything from growing there.

Update.

Trimming heavily at least once a week. Much of the carpet plants in the back isn't doing so well due to the shade from the crazy growing plants. I am considering removing some the big plants completely.

Also had a minor outbreak of what I think was ich, seems to be under control now. One of the Rummy's is still sick, I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with it.
The Platy's have 4 orange surviving offspring. The blue Neo's has almost doubled in numbers to about 48.
