jhunt's first try at a real aquascape: 28 gallon bowfront

Ok, this is my first attempt at actually aquascaping a tank. The tank is a 28 gallon bowfront Craigslist special. Aquasoil substrate, Rena XP2 filter and pressurized CO2. Lighting is 2x24W Nova Extreme T5HO. Right now I am dosing 1/8 tsp KH2PO4 three days a week, and 2.5 mL of Flourish Comprehensive the other three days a week. I do a 50% water change every Sunday. The tank has been up and running for about one month now.

For hardscape I used some collected red colored, non-reactive stone. To make the ledge, I glued some of the stone to a piece of egg crate, then flipped it over and sprayed in pond foam. After the pond foam set up, I carved the back flat, and carved the front to look like rock. Then I sprayed the front with a non toxic glue and spread sand over it. When the sand and glue had set up, I scraped the sand off of the rock and was finished.

Flora includes:
Dwarf Hairgrass
Cryptocoryne Wendtii
Heteranthera zosterifolia
Blyxa Japonica
Weeping Moss
Java Moss
Pogostemon Erectus
Hygrophila salicifolia
Some type of small pennywort

Flora includes:
2 Nerite snails
Various pond and ramshorns

Once the carpet has established and the other plants have grown out a bit I plan to add four Badis Badis and possibly two hillstream loaches.

The only issue I'm having is very slow growth from my DHG. It doesn't seem like it wants to send out very many runners. I trim it down short every week when I do my water change to encourage horizontal growth but I'm not really happy with the growth rate.

There are other photos of the tank on my flickr too.

I gave up on dwarf hairgrass for that reason. It was like watching....well grass grow. I really like this picture you have on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/5648012...n/photostream/ Reminds me of some of the mountains around here in autumn. Great DIY with the rocks. I wouldn't have known they weren't all natural if you hadn't said so.

Without Algae, death of mankind would be inevitable.

I also tried growing DHG in my 37 gallon with pressurized co2 and 2x24w t5HO and it grew very slow. I would swap it out HC or glosso.
