Oil -Dri in my humle opinion 'rocks".
It is made of a molimite (sp?) clay that has been fired. It has a hign CEC. It absorbs fertilizers & looks natural. The best part is........ for a 55 gallon tank it cost a whooping $7.00.
My experience with it..... rinse it gently or you will crete more dust. Also I fertilized with osomcoat Plus in gel caps. It took two months for it to settle down, meaning I had a lot of algea. I did a lot of water changes initially.
Probably the best kept secret when it comes to substrates. I plan on getting more & pre fertilizing before putting it in a tank for a period of two months - I can wait :-)
