Getting wet again

So 6 weeks ago I resumed my aquatic journey.

First I had hoped to use a 46 gallon bow front, but alas, she will have to wait.

So enter a 29.
I had already found 2 14 lb bags of Florite, and I also got 50 lbs of play sand to cap.

Plants from newly relocated member Pashody.

First - the 29 planted, on a sponge/powerhead filter.

Second & Third - refugium build, glass panels .

Fourth and Fifth- wet test videos

Super curious about how all this fits together. Any chance of getting to see pictures of the whole thing?

Interesting you chose to do a refugium - i've not really seen / heard of these in a FW set-up. Is this just a place to grow additional plants and keeping the heater? Or a little place to keep any babies should they show up?

Several reasons. Easier water changes, heater placement, if I install a light, nursery for fish and plants, extra biological filtration, and, an easy way to hook in line CO2.

30 years ago this was an easy way to filter heavy waste producing animals ( aka cichlids, goldfish, catfish and carp).

This diy cost me under $100.
A commercial sump of this size would be around $300-400.

I'm hoping to give back to the current generation of aquatic keepers, what was every day back when I started.

Color me impressed I haven't kept Danio's for several years maybe it is time I gave them another shot.

Take only pictures, leave only footprints.
