5.5 gallon Mountain Minnow Stream

Well I set this tank up when I was given a 10 gallon over the weekend. The 10 gallon is now home to a Flame Dwarf Gourami and a few Harlequin Rasboras. I will get a thread up for that tank sometime this weekend.

I realize some of you will probably feel that this tank is overstocked, but I assure you, they are better off than they were at Petsmart, being sold as "cycle fish" because they "help jump-start the cycle, and they are cheap, so it's fine if they all die" (Exact words used by Petsmart sales associate.)

I do a 10% water change every other day, and the water quality stays very good.

Tank: 5.5 gallon Marina
Filter: Marina Slim S10
Lighting: Coralife 50/50 10w Fluorescent Mini Compact

Floura: Java Moss
Fauna: 6 White Cloud Mountain Minnows, 5+ Ramshorn snails, 3+ Pond snails
Substrate: "Sunset Beach" Sand, River Rocks, Driftwood

Cool tank. I like how it compares the lush and fluffy look of java moss with the hard stone and rich chocolate driftwood.

I replaced the Aqueon Quiet Flow 10 with a Marina Slim S10. The S10 has a lot less flow than I was hoping for, so I added a Tom's Dive Clean Mini filter w/ spraybar for more flow. Pictures to come around 12:00 PST

Do you find the Marina filter to be more or less quiet than the Aqueon QuietFlow 10? I just had to take an Aqueon out of service because it is so bloomin' loud, with a deep low hum that annoys hubby.

Is your gourami hiding? The white clouds look happy.

The Aqueon "quiet"flow 10 sounds like a small jet engine warming up. A Marina Slim S20 is on my list for this Christmas. :P

And my gourami is in my 10 gallon, but he may be moving to my LFS. He is very very timid, and he darts around the tank whenever there is ANY movement. I am afraid he may hurt himself in my tank, I have already had to rescue him twice because he freaked out and tried to cram himself under some driftwood. I think it may be because a 10 gallon is too small. Which is a shame, because I JUST set it up. Oh, well.

At my LFS, he has a nice big 50 gallon tank to swim around all he wants. It's a growout tank for all their extra plants, so he will have lots and lots of hiding places. Much better than my 10 gallon that I thought would be OK for him.
