40b Bonsai Tree

Had some free time this weekend and decided to reset my 40 breeder. First I wanted a forest type scape but opted out due to the delicate care needed. I wanted something more solid. Something to make maintenance breezy and with lots of open space for my apistos. It took me about a week to complete the tree to where I was satisfied with the design and confident in its structure. Here's a pic of the scape. Details will be next

Looks good! Could you move it 2 inches off the back of the tank. You might be able to put a light behind it to grow some stem plants to make a nice background.

Not much has happened since my last update. my co2 regulator from green leaf aquarium stopped working and has been unreliable. ive contacted them since they say they back up their products so far they've tried to help me troubleshoot the problem I suspect its a faulty working pressure knob. anyways itll be a while until I get co2 running so ive replaced it with excel for now. I'm curious as to how the hairgrass will do. I know the monte carlo will perish because ive tried growing it before with excel and it never did anything, it didn't die but for 4months nothing grew. The hairgrass on the other hand did and even carpeted so we'll see how it goes. the mini Christmas moss has been doing awesome and the sp japan bounced back. The trimming of needle leaf fern in the back have been doing good also lots of new baby plants on the leafs. One of the female apistos has been manifesting breeding behavior so hopefully we get lucky! The filter is riding solo now I removed the aquaclear 30 for a shrimp breeding tank I'm starting. when the tree grows in ill add shrimp to the tank to keep my apistos stimulated into hunting and the shrimp should have enough cover to keep population dense.

Very cool! Do you have just the single pair in there? How many Neons / Cardinals?

I bought one pair of apistos together but I went back a week later and picked up another 2 females. I did my best to pick females as they were way too young to really tell but hopefully they are lol The male is extremely over protective of his main female. They are really slow growers. They?ve spawned before but it was unsuccessful due to my negligence. Did a water test today again. Everything is stable but my ph is 7.2 a little high but it?s not budging and I really don?t want to tamper with it and disrupt balance since my tanks are meant to be low maintenance. It?s hard with 2 jobs and school but I still scour time to get in there and dedicate a good hour to maintanance. I work at amazon so on days when I finish my deliveries early I stop by fish stores and kill some time lol

Currently have 2 females spawning. I went down to Home Depot to pick up some pvc couplings to create some quick caves since the largest female took over the tree cave and this one laid them right on the glass.
