Fluval Spec V Iwagumi

First time doing a detailed aquscape. this is for a club nano competition. doing a dry start, plan on filling it in 3 months. so should be really filled in by then.

Substrate: Miracle Grow Organic topped with black blasting sand.
Stone: Seiryo
Plants : Currently DHG and AR Mini, back Left corner will be something long and grassy when I flood it.
C02: planning on using C02, have an old paintball setup but that's earmarked for a 35 gallon cube. might just do diy c02 if I keep it going post competition.
Light: Modded the Specs light. gutted it and mounted 3 Rigid LED strips to it. about 22 Watts of led.

Like the scape but I like the backdrop even more. LOL

Good start, is there a prize for the winner?

haha plan on painting or frosting the background. prolly frost it. just was a mess behind it so this was slightly "less" distracting.

contest is for fish bucks for our auctions and well bragging rights. mostly just for fun. figured it was a good excuse to try something different. normally I do jungle style tanks.

I would definitely go frosted, that sounds cool with the auction. I'm exited to see what this little thing turns out to be.

A bit of info on the lighting

I gutted the stock Spec light. then epoxied on 3 Rigid led strips. 2xdual row 5730 (6000k/3000k) and 1 6:1 Deep Red/Blue gives a nice look. spextra gives it an estimate of about 6000k. at about 11inches i'm getting 4000 lux with my cellphone app or aprox 90-100 par. so more than enough light. plan is if I keep this setup to run it thru a TC420 on discreet channels with dimming. but for now its fine just running all out.

how long does DHG take to get going on drystart. looks healthy but not really any new growth in the week its been setup. the AR mini is actually growing well and I was worried that would struggle since it was submerged stems. I've been running light 8-10 hrs a day. and I mist the tank before I turn the light on and again when I turn it off in the evening.

Hey! Nice plants! =P haha

I hope they are doing well for you.

In reply to your last comment.. when my DSM was setup, the DHG was very slow to grow emersed. After I filled the tank, thats when it really started taking off. I asked the same question when I was going through my DSM and was told its slow emersed, but when under water with good light and nutrients it really takes off.

Not sure how the mini grows but normal AR is a weed in a high tech tank, I use to have to pull and replant it weekly if I let it go 2 weeks it was 6-8" out of the water. This was under a 150w MH with CO2 and ferts

As for DHG once the root system is going it will fill in quickly in a high tech setup

not a ton has changed, but I ended up winning the competion. will keep it going for a bit longer, but it will be torn down soon when I canabalize the c02 setup for a 35 cube project.
