60H - Gentle Cascade

Bought a Landen 60H 24x18x18 aquarium from Amazon.. 270 bucks.

Built custom stand in white..

Lily pipes, off brand of course..
Eheim 350, bout to put the eheim 600 impeller in there and see if it cranks it up at all.

Aquasoil, Powersand Special, Hornwood and Yamaya Stone from AFA

Plants from.. all over the place..

Here you go! Sorry not much of a journal but I couldn't remember my password or the email I use to log into this site =[

Rotala is coloring up nicely already on day 2..
Doing about a 12 gallon water change very day.. 32 gallon tank.. I have never done water changes this large before my biggest tank to date was a NPT style 20 gallon with no water changes at all.

You've actually inspired me to build my own cabinet. If you don't mind me asking, how much do you have into it as far as wood cost goes? Also what are the slits you've made on the bottom piece for?

You have to be crafty with how you cut the wood but I was able to get all my cuts from one 4x8 3/4" plywood.
Everything is pretty self explanatory except that on the front I glued up 2 pieces of plywood and then cut a notch out so that half of the new 1.5" beam would be resting ontop of the notch so the front could be supported better.
The slots are where it is all joined together using a Biscuit Joiner, you can rent one or buy one.. Its a good tool to own for cabinetry, cuts slots to put these wooden things in with glue and it holds it all together super tight.

Here are a few more pics that might help..

This is the double thick front beam

Here you can see where the beam is notched in so that the front of the top plywood has support

Here you can see the biscuits are all glued in place and im about to put the top on.

32 Gallon Nature Aquarium Style!

Oooooo!!! You know what they say.. you learn something new everyday! I've worked with wood, i am not the best but I did build a 4'Lx 2'Hx 2'W bearded dragon enclosure back in the day. I thought it came out ok haha. Yea it is pretty straight forward! The only thing that threw me off was those biscuits! Googled it and now I get how it works! Thank you. Very good wood worker! My hats off to you

*edit: what type of wood did you use? Pine? Birch?

Wow I see I accidentally copied same photo for all of those! I'll fix in the morning.

I used cabinet grade plywood with a good birch veneer on both sides and Formica laminate to make it nice and waterproof. I do a lot of woodworking so this wasn't hard for me but also my ADA style stand for my mini M was one of my first projects ever and got me into carpentry. It was not too hard then either as a beginner just make sure you get your measurements right!

If you can find all birch plywood it's very very strong but I couldn't find it.

I am in Tennessee!

Bump: The night shots are looking really nice with the Current light.

Looking to get my stem plants thick and colorful.. Maybe add a little more dimension to the variety.

This tank is kind of a mixed blessing because while I love having the split tank with a sandbar in the front for looks... I really want some more room for stem plants.. but alas I suppose I may need an even bigger tank to do a dutch style.. Next christmas!

Stocking?
I really want 2 german blue rams..
I'm also into Rummy Nose Tetra's but not sure if they like to swim too much for a 32 gallon tank like this.. 24x18x18
Cardinals, Celestial Pearl Danio, Julii Cory, BN Pleco, Oto's... All of these appeal to me..
Any ideas?

Rotala is growing nicely but has completely lost it's red and ive added Hydrocotyle Japan, Rotala green, and AR mini.

Green hair algae is also taking off..

Nitrite is still very high, wondering if it will ever stop at this point.
