55 gallon Amazon River Basin

I have a 55 gallon that I decided to re-scape. I had plants that were just thrown in without a plan. This time, I decided to do a plan and try an Amazon River Basin scape after viewing tanks at a local Aquarium. Here are some sketches:

Front View

Top View

Plants on order
1. Broad leaf Amazon Sword
2. Giant Amazon Swords
3. Rosette Sword
4. Micro sword - Front left, mid tank, mid right
5. Dwarf Hair Grass - front right center
6. Cabomba - across the back

Hardscape (The water is cloudy because I just uprooted my old plants)

The hardscape consists of:
EcoComplete substrate
River River rocks - I'm guessing red sandstone or red granite
Some driftwood that I had laying around

Looks good. I wasn't aware that you could house that many gouramis together... very cool

The Gouramis are fry from 5 years ago: they have always been together. As for the tank, I am hoping that it fills in nicely with a nice carpet in the foreground.

Not many gourami in the Amazon.

Jokes aside, I like your plan. And that's a nice looking angel on the right.

LOL. I have another 55 gallon with Silver Dollars and Black Tetras plus Tiger Barbs. My plan is to take out the Gouramis and put the Them with the Tiger Barbs and put the Silver Dollars and Black Tetras in this tank.

Don't let them bother you. My grandfather was born in Cape Town South Africa, yet somehow I always get passed over for the "African American" scholarships despite a stronger lineage and higher GPA than probably 99.99999% of applicants...
Amazon Gouramis Matter!

I think it would be a little closer to what you were thinking with a bunch of Mopani in there... there is a place local to me that sells it for like $4 a lb... filled up my 75 for like $30 and it looks AWESOME.

What is wrong with the rocks...I like the rocks. I like the separation that the rocks provide on the tank bottom.

I like rocks quite a bit, and I like how you've used them here. There really aren't any in the Amazon however. It's not a big deal, I just thought it went well with the gourami comment.

Fun fact, rocks are so scarce in the Amazon that they are seen almost as a status symbol there.

Cool, I am glad you like it. I tried to load it up with driftwood. . The Gouramis are temporary...I am going to rehome them to another tank. I want this thing planted with some Fish like Black and some Serpae Tetras.

I wouldn't even keep Silver Dollars in the same house as a planted tank . Maybe rethink that plan, they eat just about all plants.
