Just joined the forum today as it's the one I come to when in need of advice so thought I should register and make it official.
I started my first tank - a Fluval Edge 57L - two weeks ago after lots of research into everything that goes into it. The tank is currently set up with the following:
* Caribsea Eco-Complete (black)
* Grey Mountain Stone
* Eleocharis Parvula, Staurogyne Repens & Rotala Rotundfiola
* Additional Biohome Ultra "mini" media (500G seperated into two bundles)
I've bought a nano CO2 kit from CO2Supermarket but after setting up the drop checker, it's showing green so I'm not sure if I should even a small amount of CO2 to the tank? Perhaps 1 bubble every 5 seconds or so?
Currently going through the cycle process using Dr Tims Freshwater products - which is taking longer than the 1 week suggested time. I realise that this is a very unrealistic time-frame for cycling but that's what Dr Tim says so I am holding him to it (even thought it's already passed the 1 week mark). Hoping that it's not going to take the 6 weeks or so as I'm already getting impatient
Planning to stock guppies and shrimp. I know that I could stock more but I want to keep it simple.
Attached some photos of the tank as it currently is. I'm definitely starting to see some growth in the plants but also some algae growth on the rocks too. The tank is in a bright room but does not get direct sunlight. The wall outside is bright white which the sun hits, so I'm wondering if this is maybe reflecting sunlight onto the tank as it appears to be the rock faces that face this wall? I've got the lights set up to only be on between 3pm and 9pm currently as the room is bright so I don't think it needs it.
Any suggestions, please let me know. I'm here to learn!
