Welcome, crazy plant people, to the journal of my first planted tank!
Here's a very long introduction to how this hobby started for me:
My sister was the first one to be the crazy lady with the aquarium hobby and slowly but surely I became obsessed as well. So how did the creation of my 3G nano plant tank start? Well we had these guppies that fought with each other for a long time and we thought maybe introducing new ones would break them up but it didn't. So in an attempt to give poor Karlita the guppy (the one that was being picked on) a better life, I moved him to my sister's unused 3 gallon tank that I set up in my room on my bookshelf. My cat, Ming sat on the edge of my bed the entire night staring at the tank and yes, the next morning I found Karlita dried up like a sardine on the other side of my room. HOW DARE YOU, MING!
Anyways one day, my sister and I went on a fish store adventure driving down to the states (I live in Canada) and we stumbled by some bettas at Petco. I saw a poor baby betta with dark stress lines and I knew I had to take him home. I named him Bruce.
This is Bruce day 1 at home
This is Bruce after 3 weeks
I bought some plants, white sand substrate, cholla wood, and brought the little guy home. I set up the tank and it seemed to be doing okay... Until my cholla wood started to grow fungus. I googled and it's SUPPOSED to be harmless but I think it killed all my plants. That, or I just sucked and I didn't know anything about taking care of plants. So I did more research and here I am, redid my tank and praying to God I don't fail again.
Today I set up my freshly new tank, with new plants, aquarium soil powder, dosed it with my fertilizers, and just waiting a couple days before I put Bruce, my baby betta I bought from Petco, back into the tank.
- Monte carlo
- Marimo moss ball
- Riccia fluitans
I'm trying really hard to grow a monte carlo carpet. That's my main focus. I'm currently not using CO2 because I'm lazy and I'm hoping with this dosing regimen I don't need it. Wish me luck!
