7.5 Gal RCS tank with Ebay HC Seeds Low Tech

Hi all,

I havent had much luck raising red cherry shrimp in my other tank and wanted to try again. This time using the Ebay HC seeds as live plants.

Tank : Island 7.5 Gal Tank (bought at Sams Club on Clearance!)
Filter : AC30 - The HOB it came with seemed inefficient. So I went for the tried and true
Light : Lights are 9 leds that are stock to the hood. Look like 5630 LEDs on a 12v power.
Substrate : UP Aqua Sand
HardScape : "Dragon rock"

Plants: Ebay Seeds (With identity crisis. Listed as Glossostigma Elatinoides Hemianthus Callitrichoides seeds. I bought the small version) Bought from buyer luckiness87

Inhabitants : Red Cherry Shrimp. Maybe some small danios or tetras.

Heres the tank and the hard scape ready for planting seeds!

I wanted a small pathway of bare substrate, so I used napkins to create a path that the sprinkled seeds wouldnt fall into.

Seeded! Now we wait...

Sprayed the top with water every other day and kept the top sealed. I also filled the bottom soil with old tank water from a water change of my other tank. Figured the extra nutrient goodies in that water would help.

8 days later!

10 days from planting

11 days from planting

Roots!

13 days in and flooded!

Leaf with seed casing still on it

Dark side of the tank behind the rocks

Some stragglers that got stuck in the rocks

Full tank shots tonight after things settle. I dropped a couple of platys in there to have my 20month old daughter stare and point while things settle. Ill def speed cycle this tank with crud from my other tank and get some shrimp in there soon!

Thanks for following all!

Just so you know those are not real HC seeds and it will rot and melt after 2-3 months. What you see and what they sell you are not HC.

I knew that they werent HC or GE. But havent seen anything confirm online the longevity of the plants while submerged.

I'll just have to watch them to see if their melting affects water enough to worry. Here's hoping for the best though!

Here is the picture I found on a Chinese forum.

It's the first stage after it starts rotting. Usually during that stage people start pulling it out as it has no happy ending. And I believe most people are too embarrassed to show the afterward picture.

Please do update your result! Many people would like to see how it ends.
