55g - Starting EI

Hey everyone,
I've had my 55 gallon for about a year now, but hasn't been very successful. Since I've joined the forum, I've learned alot about plants, that I didn't know. I just received dry EI ferts from NilocG aquatics, and I'd like to journal my personal experience, and progress while using these ferts.

My tank:
Medium LED lighting, some kind of beamswork light
Diy co2
Sun-sun JVP-20 wavemaker
Cascade heat 300 watt heater set at 79 degrees Fahrenheit

Flora:
3 Amazon swords
2 Anubias
A bit of DHG
Crypt wendtii
Unknown moss
Unknown stem plants
(Can't see the stems yet, as they're behind a rock)

Fauna:
3 angelfish
3 black skirt tetras
2 gold skirt tetras
3 SAE
4 neons
1 blue gourami
(I'll be adding more tetras, to make the schools bigger)

Here's a before picture of the tank:

Will be adding pictures every Sunday once I start dosing.

Stay tuned!

Here are the stems if anyone can ID:

The tank looks sweet! It's hard to tell from the picture. Are consecutive nodes facing perpendicula to each other? It looks like a bacopa or maybe a Rotala sp.

You don't have a lot of plants right now so make sure you don't dose the full EI. You will want to dose about a quarter of the full EI amounts.

Just a noob

Okay, so 1 week has passed. I dosed the whole week and I just did a 50% water change. So far, I've seen no noticeable differences in plant growth. Although I have seen a decrease in algae, and my plants do look a bit healthier.

Also, if anyone has any fast growing stem plants they're willing to send me for free, I really would appreciate it, as I can't get a job yet and can't afford new plants. PM me if you're willing. I'd like to add the stems to the highlighted section on the picture.

After 1 week of EI dosing:

Hi all. Newbie here. And can't seem to find where I can start a new thread to ask this question, so I apologize for hijacking this thread to ask this. I have a 20 gallon tank that I'm hoping to turn into a planted aquarium. I do have live plants but the plants I really want are the different types of moss plants (as well as other plants). I want to remove the gravel from said tank and replace it with a proper substrate, my question is, when I do this, can my fish go back into the same tank the same day?

Take a cup of gravel out, and put it in a mesh bag or panty hose, tie it up and keep it in tank water. Once you're done with the change, put the bag in the tank to keep it cycled. Also, make sure your filter media stays in tank water to keep the bacteria alive.

No worries on posting here btw.

I'm not sure what you expecting from a few anubias, crypt in a tank in a week? EI is not some miracle, it's a fertilizing method that will pretty much insure that your plants won't run short of something and cause a deficiency and a greater likelihood of algae. How are your co2 levels?

Do you not see the 3 swords? There's also some DHG scattered around and stem plants behind the rocks.

Yes I do understand what EI does, but I expected it to atleast get rid of algae and give me some new growth.

The best way to combat algae is more plants and getting them to out compete the algae.

Trust me, I would love to get more plants, but can't afford it.
