ADA 60H Rescape: Iwagumi (pic heavy)

As usual, comments/advice are welcome.
The process of taking down the tank, cleaning, scaping and planting took about 4 hours this morning.

I hope you enjoy the step by step journal.

Background
The latest northeaster storm wrecked havoc in my neighborhood while I was out on vacation - numerous power outages left my thermostat stuck, the house (apparently well insulated) was heated up to 90-100F (by my estimate). All of my tanks except for the 120P was wiped out. This 60H used to house a school of about 20 Rummynoses, a dozen Amanos, some Otos and numerous CRS. Only the CRS survived.

Tank before rescape
A big mess, the foreground was just planted a few weeks ago. HG haven't had a chance to grow in.

I love how the tank looked before! I'll be interested to see how you pull of a iwagumi in such a tall tank, I can only think of one tank that did it well.

I love that you're using a 60H, I've just bought a 60x45x45 and was terrified that I'd never seen any really memorable tall tanks. Your first image has given me all sorts of ideas for my tank. I know it's for your old tank, but do you have a plant list?

hi Garuf,
60H is awkward, tall and not much depth. I wish it were 60x45x45, but then I wouldn't do an Iwagumi with that dimension.Let's see how this iwagumi goes (my previous project was an 120P Iwagumi, I am hooked). Currently, this tank have UG and very little hairgrass. I am hoping that UG would take off before I put anything taller to soften the background and perhaps deal with the tank height.

The old tank had HairGrass in the foreground, java moss on the rocks, anubias nana petite in between the rocks, rotalla sp(??), some unidentified hygro, and riccia that got into everything.

Here are some previous iterations of the 60H, see if you like any of them.

This should be a really cool tank. I love the height of it.

The first and the last one are really great.
I've never done an iwagumi, I always say my next tank will be one but then I grab the wood and can't help but use it.
Here's my favourite ever iwagumi, it's also the really tall one I said.

I hate Riccia with a passion, it's such a thug of a plant and it's not even that nice looking, I got some in my tank and ended up overdosing excel just to melt it. I feel your pain when it gets into everything.

Garuf, thanks for the link. That is definitely a very interesting Iwagumi. It's a cube tank, your 60x45x45 would be a great candidate to do something similar.

Probably, I don't have the rocks knocking about for anything similar though, I just dropped 70 on wood ($120) so I'm not really on the market for splashing much more. Anyway, I should stop clogging your thread, best of luck!

I agree, the first and last layouts look the best

I'm looking forward to seeing this tank mature!
