12g Long iwagumi

I been wanting to get my hands on one of these for the past couple of years and finally got the opportunity. This past long weekend I bought a 12g Aquatop low iron rimless tank, and plan to setup an iwagumi with a very minimalist approach. I also purchased a chihiros 90cm LED and have a manual dimmer to add to reduce light intensity. I'm also planning fluorite sand mixed with ADA Amazonia and still have to pick up a stand, glass or metal lily pipes, and a filter. I'm planning to do something simple like only two plants species (HC and hairgrass) and for fauna - shrimp & maybe ember tetras.

Tank: Aquatop, 35.4"L x 8.5"D x 9.5"H, low iron glass, 12 gallons
Light: Chihiros A series 90cm LED with dimmer
Heater: none
Filter: Maybe eheim 2213
Stand: ADA knockoff or ikea unit

Plants: HC and dwarf hairgrass

Any suggestions welcome. Thanks for looking.

Immediately i feel as though you have nailed the hardscape, but perhaps with your choice of plants it may not pop as much as you may desire. Some of the rocks on the right hand side I feel should be sacrificial rocks and would therefore be grown over and eventually hidden regardless but I do like your set up.

One other issue which I'm sure you've thought of, that direct sunlight you've taken the photos of the tank using. It will definitely cause some issues in your tanks life so I would suggest you have an idea of how to block that light out atleast.

I can see the tank with some stem plants popping out from behind the rocks and I think it would look great, that being said I think this will look great regardless!

Well done, keep it up!

Amazing layout! Love it. Little heavy on the left, imo I would move everything 2" to the right. But can't wait to see what you do!

IMO, I actually think the left grouping should be on the right and right on the left. If the main rock on the left was leaning in toward the center it would change the focal point completely. For a low tank like that I think your suggestion of hairgrass/hc is a good one.

I love the rockwork. I'm a sucker for a well-done, open feeling iwagumi, and this is right up my alley. I also really like the look of the long tanks. I'm gonna tag along and live vicariously through you on this one.

Feeling adventurous? Maybe check out my current
