Last week I notice some nutrient deficiencies in my leaves, so I dosed a touch of extra potassium and let everything run. So I get home:
CO2 meter is pale green (should be emerald), but the fish seemed ok

AR mini and my white anubias have melted, so badly I just need to rip them out

Scum on the water surface
Algae galore! Black beard, Green, even rhinhorn (never had that before) and hair algae has completed masked my peacock moss.

What in the world happened? 4 days away and everything went funky. I just turned the light off and CO2 and increased the current. Ill have to find a way to triple tackle this. Im thinking that potentially the AR Mini melted, caused ammonia spike? CO2 somehow stayed on and defaulted (as it is on a timer) OR the light stayed on- but then why would the CO2 be so high?
The only other time I had scum on my water was when I did a naturescape with local outdoor plants and water and it filled with Blue/green black 'algae' (bacteria), oops.

Parameters as of this AM:

  • Ammmonia 0
  • Nitrate 0
  • Nitrate 20
  • Phosphate 0-.25 (I cant tell.. they are so close in color)
  • Nutrients: Thrive C 1/2 dose twice a week
Water changes of 20% every 10 days or so
Trim once a week

Chiros lighting (lighting schedule below- medium light)

co2= .5 drops per second
10 Gallon, heavily planted.
Inhabitants: 2 adult endlers and 6 fry
2 nerite snails
3 amano shrimp
2 cherry shrimp
2 assassin snails
